I was watching top of the pops before this came on and then switched it over. He was an amazing singer (a love so beautiful OMG) but he gave me the creeps to look at him when I was young and still does. I can't explain it.

He was a fabulous vocalist, not least because he had their rare gift of chanelling all his pain and emotion through his voice.

Whitney Houston would have done well to listen to how he emoted, then she may not have spent her entire career under the mistaken impression that the more you quiver your lips, the more emotional you appear to be, and the louder you sing, the more soulful you sound.

Both are manifestly untrue, but she had a huge fanbase who either didn't understand the differences, or more likely, didn't care.
