‘Embers’ is not in an English/British style, it is American.
It deserves to do badly.
Rubbish!

Don't hold back, Andres: say what you really mean! ;-)

BTW: We've been missing you on the BBC quiz threads on Friday evenings :(
The song fits with the current trend for earnest young men with beards and gruff voices singing nonsense over machine-produced unmemorable pap.

But it doesn;t matter because, as advised, politics will prevent us from winning, even more so now we are outside the EU - our potential allies have nothing to gain by keeping us sweet.

I've never subscribed to the 'politics' argument, which was largely started by Wogan, Andy. To me it seems that nations simply vote for songs in the styles which are popular in that part of Europe, For example, Greece, Turkey and Cyprus all tend to vote for each other's songs, irrespective of the tremendous animosity between Greece and Turkey, simply because the same styles of music are popular across that part of the world.

Further, Ireland has no natural political allies in the competition, other than the UK, but has won the competition more times than anyone else.

However I largely agree with your first paragraph ;-)
buen--- I will be back!!
Don't think it will be "nil points" Chris, but I'm going to predict it will be in the bottom three. Hope I'm wrong.

>>> buen--- I will be back!!

Glad to hear it, Andres ;-)

Sam: I think I'd go for 'bottom third', rather than 'bottom three', but you might well be right ;-)
sunk: "The UK have never been successful in a European songwriting contest because we are more influenced by the US pop/jazz/blues/soul style of writing. " - rubbish, we have won it several times when it was actually a song contest. These days it's a who it hates each other the least contest, nothing to do with the actual song.
chico: "Further, Ireland has no natural political allies in the competition, other than the UK, but has won the competition more times than anyone else. " - they also have no real political enemies.
not my taste
Oh dear me No, sorry Buen ...
Why have all our entries in recent years been miserable boring ballads? What's wrong with an up tempo jolly song that gets people dancing?
Are they allowed to use Autotune at the actual performance? If not, it's gonna sound lot different on the night.
Eeuuww...what sunk said @ 19.24...it looks like a rather grubby location.
Also, I can't take to a singer who appears to be wearing white socks...
