Sunk - // / I am not keen on young artists piggy-backing on the talents of other musicians, so i won;t be trying this, because I disliked the other cover version. //
Totally disagree with that. All music borrows from what went before. The Beatles and the Stones were great borrowers of US blues masters, and they went on to make lots of great original music. //
It's my view, and I could easily be mistaken, but when The Beatles and The Stones covered songs by other artists, the artists they covered were their heroes, and their music was completely unknown over here until The Beatles and The Stones drew attention to it.
That is a world away from taking a song that has already been a hit, adding absolutely nothing new whatsoever to its timeless hook and originality, putting a few sound effects on it, and passing it off as something original.
I have no issue with anyone being influenced by music they hear, as you point out, it's how musicians get started in their careers, but there is a big difference between being influenced, and simply riding a hit - and this song is riding a hit, badly.
