Does anyone like Genesis? I saw them at the O2 last night - they were brilliant

They're one of my favourite bands, and I have seen them many times in their various incarnations.

I just could not bring myself to go to any of the gigs on their current tour, nor the previous one.

Having seen some of the footage on YouTube, I'm so glad I didn't go. So desperately sad.

I didn't find it sad. Phil Collins can still sing and he still has his personality, sense of humour and ability to engage with the crowd.

He really can't. They've had to drop the keys of the songs so far that they are, essentially, unlistenable.

I'm guessing this is the first time you've seen the band live...

Yes it is. Never really had the time before. I think I bought tickets for Twickenham but work decided I would be elsewhere so we couldn`t go. Most singers from that era have to drop the keys - George Micheal did when he was in his mid 40s.

Were'nt you at the Elton John concert in Hove? I seem to remember you were as I was there. Elton seriously dropped the keys but you enjoyed that

Genesis stopped being decent when first Peter Gabriel, then Steve Hackett left.

I have to side (partly) with Jim. Although I have no problem with older artists changing key so they can still sing the older hits, seeing Phil chair-bound because of his ill health is rather heartbreaking. I'm no fan of his as a solo singer, but he deserves better.

It's funny. I was only saying to my sister tonight that there is a before Peter Gabriel and after Peter Gabriel culture with Genesis fans. Genesis with Peter Gabriel was before my time. To be honest, I liked black music and wasn't a prog rock fan but I do like some of it now

I am definitely a Gabriel period Genesis fan. I saw them on the Lamb Lies Down tour then Gabriel on his first solo tour. I've seen Steve Hackett a few times, performing his own songs and from his days in Genesis.

I remember more of Genesis with Phil Collins than Peter Gabriel.

Got to agree with Mozz71 on this one,i've seen Genesis a couple of times also Peter Gabriel a couple of times,in my opinion peter gabriel is a far better singer than phil collins and a much better showman.

I basically stopped buying,listening to Genesis when Peter left. Was a fan since the very early days. Still buy Peters albums. Before his departure, saw them live , Lamb lies down tour. I commented “ they will have to come up with something spectacular next” Not knowing he was leaving.

They were mediocre compared with the stuff before Peter left. Middle of the road even.

I guess, as with many a prog band (Yes, Rush, Tull etc) they moved away from their prog roots and went more mainstream. (In other words, sold out)

I look at Gabriel Genesis and Collins Genesis as two separate bands, although I do love watching Phil doing the silly spoken word bit on I Know What I Like. He can hardly get.through it without blushing in embarrassment.
