Just some research work for something I am writing....what sort of fees does a top or very good concert pianist pull down for a concert in London or the Proms? The music - something like the Mahler 5th - a fabulous piece of music by the way and the piano Adagietto version is stunning.
i think the way in which professional musicians get paid is different. If you are in a professional orchestra in a "seated" position, you get an annual fee/wage. However, sometimes, say, the second flute isnt available for a performance, so you hire in a session musician for a one off fee
I think the pianist in your example would be paid differently depending on how she was employed
