Brookline, the scene of one of the rowdiest Ryder Cup encounters, plays host to this year's US Open Golf Tournament.
It is a course that does not suffer fools gladly but rewards those who are quite adept with the driver and, having read the opinions of a few 'experts', i've come up with a shortlist of those i feel may do well over the next 4 days
.
Rory McIlroy (10/1 fav) won the Canadian last week but it's a rarity in golf for a player to win two tournaments on the trot, so though i've left him out of calculations, it wouldn't be a massive surprise were he to win.
Those kind folk at Bet365 have given me a free £5 bet - well, Denise can afford it ;-) - which, after very careful consideration, i have split e.w. on our very own Matt Fitzpatrick @ 28/1 to 8 places. He has form at this tricky course - won amateur tournament back in 2013 - and is in decent form, though he faded somewhat in Canada.
My idea of the winner is Justin Thomas, in contention throughout last week and will want revenge on McIlroy. I have £2 on him @ 12/1 with 365
The rest of my bets are;
£1 e.w. Corey Conners @ 50/1 - placed for me last week in Canada - to 8 places - 365
£1 e.w. Louis Oosthuzen @ 80/1 - big tournament player - to 8 places - 365
£1 e.w. Brooks Koepka @ 50/1 - newly wed, in a good place, fit - to 8 places - 365
£1 e.w. Ryan Fox @ 175/1 - in the form of his life in minor tournaments - 10 places - Sky
So that's a fiver free bet and a tenner of my own dosh. Let the games begin:-)

Sometimes the other way round. He seems to be going backwards at the moment. MF has done the opposite so far. Looking at the scores so far today, it looks like the course is playing difficult. I haven't got Sky, so can only look at the leader board on the net.
Brookline was the scene of the infamous green invasion by the Americans after Justin Leonard sank a tramliner. And the European player had yet to putt. Olazabal, I think. Not sure.
Mark James wrote a book about it called Into The Bear Pit. Sorry Ken, none of that has anything to do with betting!

I was with Jon Rahm in almost every tournament last season but he seemed to have lost his way a tad in this season's earlier tournaments. However, when i went to bed last night, he held a one stroke lead approaching the 18th, which he double-bogeyed. If he can put that behind him, he will be in there at the death and he has the big match-winning mentality that some of those around him do not possess.
