Are there any exceptions when it comes to killing? I hate touts they are scum. I've seen the monkeys twice now, once before the hype and at the nme tour in Newcastle which by the way Maximo Park absolutely stole the show. Anyway back to the touts, having tried to get tickets for the forthcoming uk tour both on the website and over the phone I was p*ssed off for seeing them being sold for a stupid price of 296.on ebay. Is there anyway of stopping this? Surely someone out there has an idea of how genuine fans can get their paws on the tickets before meatheads can get them.

I get offered a lot of tickets to see various bands etc and only this morning I have been offered two tickets to see the Arctic Monkeys on the 27th April @ Brixton for 15 each which i am delighted with but if i wasnt interested i wouldnt take them to sell on which i agree is totally wrong and spoils it for the true fans who just want to see their fav band play live. I agree that something should be done but im not sure if any laws are being broken? It amazes me just how greedy some people are and its a shame. If demand contiunes with the forthcoming tour you may be lucky and some more dates could be added. I hope you do manage to get some fair priced tickets . Good luck!

Thanks for the reply, not selling them by any chance are you?

When I've had a spare ticket for a gig because someone can't make it or whatever - I've always sold it on (assuming I'm still going myself).
But I've always sold it to another fan at face value. (By 'another fan' - I mean one who's obviously with his or her ticketed mates, but hasn't got a ticket themselves, one who has asked the touts, had a heart attack at the cost, and is now looking very upset at the prospect of their mates going in to see the gig while they're stuck outside !!)

Selling at face value covers my costs, and someone gets in to see the gig without paying a ridiculous price to a tout.

I am rather divided about touts on the whole, though. It could be argued that they fulfill a function, and are only making a living.

It made me chuckle (ironically) when Government has legislated against touts (largely as a result of the oi polloi getting into their precious Wimbledon) when surely touts are Capitalist entrepreneurs governed by supply and demand in the ultimate free market economy that Government champions?

And if anyone wants tickets for Bauhaus at the Academy tonight - I'm not selling !!!

Most bands have a mailing list on their website and if you sign up you'll often get e-mailed about tickets. I'm signed up with several such lists and tickets are often released to subscribers a day before the rest of the world. Same goes for limited edition vinyl releases or CDs. I understand from a mate that the Arctic Monkeys released tickets to e-mail subscribers before the 'meatheads'.

If I was you I'd just be happy that you saw them in (I assume) a small venue before the hype. I'm sure the next tour will be full of the prawn sandwich brigade who read an article about 'em in the Telegraph ;-)

This will always happen no matter what - its the hype that does it. This band have been hotly tipped as far back as July I have been asked about his band at work before I even knew who they were. Every magazine, paper and radio station has said they are the next big thing therefor fans will pay ridiculous prices and people jump on the band wagon because they know they will profit from it. I know a couple of people who buy tickets from the agencys and sell them on I agree - not a cool thing to do but it is lucrative. I also would like there to be a way around this but I honestly dont think you'll ever stop it.
