To almost never announce or back-announce the singers of the songs? How twee.

I heard Simon Bates play a tune twice back-to-back in that annoying way he used to do, and then not announce who it was! I was so determined to find out, I called Radio One to ask, and from the deep sigh I got from the lady who identified the song for me (it was 'Your Town' by Deacon Blue), he did that a lot. Apart from the hideiously dreadful 'What's Goin' On' by Four Non-Blondes, which he played, and announced, and generally name-dropped with embarassing sychophancy. Bates is long gone, but the habit lives on - maybe it's time for another 'Smashie and nicey' type cull at Radio One? Bye bye Coxy - see ya, don't wanna hear ya!
how fickle we are these days. if all DJ's (and i used to be one) did this then we would all be complaining about how all DJ's treat us like fools of course we know the name of that song. As andy says if you are desperate enough to find out the name of a song that you liked and the DJ hasn't given the name out then either keep listening or a quick call to the station concerned will give you the info. So it's not to be cool just to stop sounding repetetive.
I used the word 'cull' because it means reducing a psecies by a specified amount, in order to maintain the future of the species as a whole, so in that sense, my use of the word is correct. I would not for one minute suggest actually killing people like Sarah Cox - they should be made to stay alive and listen to people who can converse intelligently, maybe learn a thing or two!

A lot of radio stations (particularly the major ones) provide their play lists via their websites, so in theory if you can remember when you heard the song you can go online and find out what song was playing.
There is also a new online service called shazam.com which claims that if you dial their number hold up your mobile for 20 seconds or something and they will identify the tune and text the info back to you
