busking

hi i'm low on cash and as i play the guitar i was thinking about busking. anyone know any good songs to play, ones people will know and not too hard? also anyone know the best places to busk in london? cheers

Fast car by Tracey Chapman is about four chords and drugs don't work or lucky man by verve/r ashcroft should be easy to work out if you don't have the music, and great for male voice (if you're a boy or girl I don't know). Not that they are happy tunes at all but people do know them - which is the important thing.

I've never busked and I hardly play guitar so I don't if this one is easy but what about mrs. robinson (lemonheads style of course) and american pie is a good one as once you know it that's got you covered for at least 8 minutes!

I think you need to apply for a licenced spot now in london (seem to remember seeing something about them being designated areas where you won't be moved on, sopnsored by carling I think) I could be totally wrong though!
