Hiding Number plates

Is it true if you cover your number plates with cling film, it deflects the light so the speed cameras cant see your reg??? I got flashed after jumping the lights, is that �60 fine'? ta

its against the law to cover or hide your no plate from view and yes its �60 and 3 points

Cling film, rubbing half a potato, clear nail varnish etc etc.

when speed cameras first came out i read an article that tried lots of different methods to blur the number plate, cling film was highly rated, but the best was a sensor that when it detected a flash, caused a flash by the number plate to activate, blurred the whole number plate

the best thing ive heard that works 100% of the time is: -

dont speed
dont jump the lights
dont sit in a box junction
dont use a bus lane

My wife might be coming the other way

- and she drives 2 and a half tonnes of Landrover Defender with a bumper that looks like it came off of a crane.

Under the Road Vehicles (Display of Registration Marks) Regulations 2001, if the police spot anything on your number plate which reduces the legibility of the plate, they can impose a fixed penalty fine or prosecute you. (The maximum fine a court can impose is �1000).

So you could be driving at a legal speed and get stopped for something as simple as having a tail light out. When PC Plod walks around your car, looking for anything which he can nick you for, he spots the cling film. He'd almost certainly impose a fixed penalty for the number plate offence and he'd probably be far less likely to let you off the tail light offence.

Cling film doesn't hide your number plate from safety cameras but it does increase the chances of you picking up other fines.

Jake, we had exactly the same problem with a deer. We just left it. The antler motif looks pretty good, especially when driving the rangey on the pavement to nudge pedestrians out of the way!
