Diana fund to help asylum seekers
I am most heartened to see that The Diana Memorial Fund is marking the 10th anniversary of the Princess's death by earmarking up to 10 million of its remaining 25 million funds on promoting the rights of refugees and asylum seekers.

Are you convinced as I am that it is exactly the sort of thing Princess Diana would have been involved in had she lived?

Whilst i wholeheartedly supported her work with AIDS and the abolishion of land mines, this is not my cup of tea at all.
I think this is a kick in the balls to The Duke of Edinburgh from beyond the grave.
Asylum seekers, indeed!!!!

Hmmm, where are all the do-gooders saying that this Q is racist?
Shadow Man, apparently no money can be claimed back once it has been donated. Many have tried after reading this article.
I never donate anything anymore unless i know where it is going. I too agree on the abolishion of land mines and AIDS but this is something i am proud to say i have not donated into...

must say this gave me a chuckle... bet the "moral majority" are spitting their tea out as we speak - ahh she was the peoples princess (provided they were good honest working class 12th generation british people!)
oh and Mr Ben - previously did you often donate money when you had no idea what it would be used for, what an interesting approach to charity donations you had... maybe theres a gay / lesbian tight-rope walking associate for jewish refugees from albania that is missing your donations - i say we all play donation russian roulette and see what happens

No IggyB, i never have donated money in the past without knowing where it is going.
I am not a scrooge, i donate 20 a month to different charities. (its not much but it must make a difference)
Breast cancer research, Genetic research, NSPCC, NSPCA and Burnley Hospice.
If i found out any of these were using my money for something else my donations would cease immediately...

The Telegraph article says:
"Fifty unaccompanied children seeking asylum arrive every week".
Are they really seeking asylum or are their parents or relatives just sending them here hoping they have a chance to earn a better salary than they could in their own country (and maybe send some home).
And of course once they come here they have to be put in accomodatrion, then educated, all at OUR expense.
Also we have no control over who these people are, completely by passing the "points" system which is supposed to make sure that people who come here
can add some value to the country.
Surely this is another example of how the asylum system is being abused and costing us money, to almost no benefit.

Splat Can I be a captain too?
Hiya Groms - How's clock making business going? Still flourishing?
I expect this is exactly the sort of thing Diana would be involved in. Further more, I think that she would also have had a lot to say about the trafficing of women asylum seekers/immigrants for sex.
But what would I know eh?
