Who started Knotting Hill Carnival? I heard it was a Trinidadian woman who was kicked out of the US for her communist beliefs. Is this true? Where can I find more information about her?

In 1959, the year after the Notting Hill riots, West Indian Gazette editor Claudia Jones (who had just been deported from the USA for her race protests) organised the first carnival.
