I'm having 'Sweet Child o'Mine' by Guns n' Roses but i suspect that's probably not the sort of thing you're after...at the last wedding I went to they had 'The Wonder of You' by Elvis.
Could be the song that was playing on your first date or the song that was on when you first made luuurrrve or something like that !
Ours was Here and Now by Del Amitri - a song that I first played for the now Mrs Rinkytink at University.
Can be anything you want really. Some friends of ours had Le Freak by Chic and my Sister had Can't take my Eyes off of you (the Andy Williams version).
rinkytink...your answer made me laugh. Can't remember any song from our first date but the song we first made love to happened (by accident, not design) to be Relax by Frankie. Mhmmm, not QUITE what you'd expect a first dance song to be!! If we ever get married, I'll suggest it to my beloved!
Trionam.....avoid all the cliches and go for a song that you both love, it doesn't haev to be a soppy ballad. maybe write a few down each, then copmpare lists and see if you have any in common.Good luck with the wedding, have a great day!
we did...Cant take my eyes of you...but the Four Seasons version...we didnt really have a first dance and dont really like the dizzy dances...this had a bit of cuddling up into a good old boogie which fitted perfectly...enjoy...its the best day ever...
I have the same dilemma! 6 weeks until my wedding. On our shortlist we have Extreme - more than words, wet wet wet - angel eyes, Mr Big - to be with you, bon jovi - bed of roses and Firehouse- when i look into your eyes. also have 2 other wedding type songs but they are a bit fast for a 1st dance so mighty have them after. queen - my best friend and wannadies - you and me song
def not eric clapton wonderful tonight, it sounds like a durge and everyone uses it, you dont want to be the same as everyone else! also not lionel richie, he's even worse.groovy kind of love by phil collins is a beautiful song.
It is a matter of personal choice, but if you aren't fussed about anything, why not hit your library, and get a few of the love songs compilations, and choose one of those, or ask married friends for suggestions, or of course your DJ who will know loads. Don't forget, the 'first dance' is a tradition, but it's not compulsory, if you're not bothered, why not just let the disco start without a 'special' dance.
"Waltzing's for Dreamers" by Richard Thompson. The lyrics aren't quite right but it's a wonderful tune. Possibly better for the last waltz - for your friends after you have left.
having to dj weddings on a regular basis, the song that is most requested as a first song believe it or not is DJ SAMMY, HEAVEN. but the candlelight mix which is just female vocals over piano tune.
hope this helps, dazza
My two faves are Endless Love by Diana Ross and Lionel Richie and Shania Twain's From this moment on. Perfect as a first dance but then i'm just a sentimental fool who's into all that shmaltz. My hubby and I danced to the Shania Twain track. I loved the words and thought it was soooooo romantic for a newly wed couple but he did the typical blokey thing and said what ? Yeah , yeah fine , i'll leave it up to you. Hmph ! Sadly some things never change lol ! Pick a song that means something special to you. You'll know it when you hear it. All the best for your big day x
Why not one of the old chestnuts .............
"The Wedding" by Julie Rogers ...........................
"Something old something new" by The Fantastics ..........
"Third finger left hand" by Martha Reeves and the Vandellas ...............
BUT NOT - REPEAT - NOT
"Band of gold" - Freda Payne.
Oh, yes,
A tune I have been asked to play a few times is SHANIA TWAIN - "You're still the one".
Mrs mcmikeymike and I had 3 in all, Wet Wet Wet - "Love is all around", followed by Bryan Adams "Everything I do" and then later on "Unchained Melody" the Righteous Brothers.
Good grief, it was 10 years ago this week. 10th anniversary on sunday (agh)
Since marriage is an intstitution that I escaped from some while back, how about something like The Ballad Of Tom Jones by Space with Cerys Matthews, but that's just me being jaundiced.
To be honest, it's your day, so as jills suggested, go for something that means something to both of you. Oh, and good luck!
Or even a fave of mine when I spin the odd cd on a mobile disco, Move Closer by Phillis Nelson or even The Lady In Red by Chris De Burgh, crap but effective.
