Could anyone tell me why, for quite a lot of the questions asked on AB, does the person asking the question not just go to Google (or any other similar site)?

I mean, surely you would get your answer quicker, easier, (sometimes better! lol) if you used the likes of Google.

I dont mean for questions asking for someone's opinion on something, i mean questions such as "who sang *enter title here* song", "What film was X actor in", etc, etc.

I dont want anyone to take what im saying in the wrong context, but sometimes it just seems like laziness that some people ask questions on here.

What do you folks think?

(Btw, the only reason i posted in here was because i wasn't sure where else to put it!)

sometimes people just bored i guess, also if you ask question here, you could get more personalised answers rather than just a cold computer screen.
laziness, ha, ofc ourse it included as well.
This has been asked many times before.

Why people don't use the 'search' facility before posting a question I don't know. :)

Some folk really don't know how to google effectively, others need some sort of confirmation that the answer they have is right.

Others are downright lazy.
How do you google effectively? I really don't know!
actually I think its less effort to ask the question on google that to wait for a response on here, especially if people dont give a sensible reply :D

not sure why those type of questions are asked, I can understand that lyric questions are asked here because sometimes when you google some lyrics, it doesnt come up with anything.

or sometimes maybe the question might be a bit off the wall and a google search would only bring up strange results rather than answer the question

I suppose it depends on the question, some people like a human response and there is a whole community of knowledge on here to tap in to so why not!
I agree that I think laziness is an issue with some people, they can't be bothered to google themselves.

I think a lot of people like the 'interaction' of asking another human being.

I also think some people enjoy finding the answer for someone else, it makes them feel good that they have helped someone!!!
Mr B you are absolutely right but how many of us actually do the googling for them anyway? stoopid or what?

Well, after reading through some of the topics, i found that there are sometimes questions which read like they are straight out of someone's homework!

Now, i appreciate why this site is here, but surely it's not here just to get a quick answer for homework!?

Oh and yes, i know there is a search facility here, but why use it to read questions asked before, where those questions would have "old" answers?
I like to have new answers from people who are posting here and now. : )
Pips1 - I just put 'google effectively' in the search box and found this:

http://www.googleguide.com/

:)
Thank you Ethel, that is so kind of you as I have felt a bit guily before now for posting questions I could have looked up myself! I will keep this :)

Cheers for the replies, folks.

I guess there are those who just like the more personal reply than the faceless Google answers.

Maybe it's just me (but i hope not), who hates seeing threads which the poster could easily answer themselves.

Plus, you do also get those folks who post purely because they have nothing better to do - you know the type....those that like to cause trouble....

Anyway, thanks again....im sure this question will be asked again sometime in the future!! :)
When asked how they found this site, many have answered that they were led here after asking a question on google.
Also, Ive noticed in some questions, the person asking has stated they have googled for the answer but its come up with nothing.

The reason i have asked this was mainly due to seeing questions posted which could have been / should have been Googled, but were not....

....the posts in the Science topic, by a "miss trouble", if anyone cares to check out, were all posted last night and all look like they are straight out of her homework.

Now, like i said before, i appreciate why this site is here, but surely the likes of that poster is just pure laziness?

If a question cant be answered by Google, then fine...and if Google leads to this site, fine....but surely a bit of self motivation is required before posting easily obtainable answers?
