What is wrong with my iPod?

Yesterday it was fine - last night i put on an extra Album and it sync'd and I waited until it had said ok to disconnect. I never looked at it again then this morning i put it on as normal and the new Album was there, as were the others. I clicked on songs, then artists, then the new Album then i chose the song i wanted clicked on that and then ....nothing , it stayed on the song choice. It flicked as if it was going to go forward like when the song starts, but then it flicked back to the song title. So i thought maybe it was the new Album , so I tried all the others and they too were the same, as were the videos and the podcasts............... Is there an explanation to this or do i have to do a master re-set?

Just when i start believing in modern technology , it lets me down again.
