Who sings "Walking in Memphis"?

I think the original was by Marc Cohn ( cohen ) and was then ruined by cher.........

Marc Cohn recorded the original.  His version reached No66 around May / June 1991 in the UK.  On re-issue later that year it made it to No22 (Oct-Nov).

 

Shut Up and Dance sampled it on their single "Raving I'm Raving" (No2 May 1992).  Marc Cohn took legal action against them and stopped them from making any more copies as he did not want his song used in such a way.  I think he was fair, as he allowed them to sell the 250,000 copies which had been produced and donated his royalties to charity.

 

Cher's inferior version reached No11 late in 1995.

Hello. I don't know if the other persons said the truth but I can swear that the singer is Don Henley (from the band Eagles, but singing alone), I got the song, it's one of my favorite.

I don't think Cher's singing is as fantastic as Don Henley's. ;-)
