Out of the blue my simple BT telephone can no longer call out (no dialling tone). The ringer works on incoming calls but I cannot hear the caller although he/she can hear me. I have bought a new phone and the problem is still there. Even at the test socket (at the BT main box) there is no dial tone. Here is the rub - the BT checks show NO problems with my line. I also have a fax machine and a cordless DECT phone, both of which work OK. Only the phones that have no independent power supply do not work. All the lines are the same (as you would expect since the problem exists at the test socket). Any suggestions please.
Call 0800 800 150 from a mobile - BT Faults, and advise them of your main number, and the problems you are experiencing, and they will test your line and advise you how to proceed.
Done all that. They remote-checked the line and told me it was working OK. They will send out a technician if I agree to pay a call-out charge if it is not BT's fault. I need to be 100% sure 'cos I'm not forking out 100 + just to get into an argument.
