You can probably guess I can't pick just one so have invented various categories to accomodate some - but not nearly all - my faves!
There was a bad re-recorded version of Bob Relf on the Black magic labe in 1975.
Other great NS instrumentals:
Fife Piper - Dynatones
How Can I Forget - Joey Dee
If You and I Had Never Met - Magic Night
Right on - Al de Lory
Spring Rain - Silvetti
Black is Black - both Paul Mauriat and Sounds Orchestral versions
I think the couple of copies of Frank Wilson are 3 or 4 times that price now.
As for my favourites. Obviously "Tainted Love" has to be in there. As someone else mentioned Darrell Banks "Open the door..." is superb, and"Landslide" has become one of my faves, along with the Rubin track since it was used on a cat food ad (Felix).
I think one of the absolute faves is Tommy Hunt "Loving on the losing side". It was pretty much my introduction to Northern Soul about 30 years ago by my older brother who attended various venues.
When I was old enough to go anywhere I became a dj (actually, I was 16 when I started) so never really got the chance to get to any Northern Soul nights. Despite never really getting onto the scene, I have always carried quite a few Northern tracks.
