How did the The Streets win British Male Solo Artist?

1. I thought the streets the name of the band and the "singer" was called Skinner.
2. He doesn't even sing, he just talks about normal everyday things like shopping at asda and eating pizza.
3. He beat Jamie Cullum, Lemar, Morrissey, and most surprising Will Young. At least the other 4 have musical talent.

How did they/he win?????

and neither was i at first but then they did a few 'poppie' tunes which got me interested and now i really like them

rappers dont usually 'sing' - this doesnt mean they arent good performers

The Streets (a name for the collective, and a name for Mr Skinner, either / or) are considered one of the freshest and most original talents for a long time - hence their critical success. I have to agree with the Award, although I wouldn't cross the road to listen to their recorded output. Talent they certainly have, it's just not my thing.

I agree, I cannot stand listening to "The Streets" and turn over as soon as I hear them.

They may well be popular with a lot of people however I really don't get it.

I disagree.  Skinner has a lot of talent and A Grand Don't Come For Free was one of the best albums from last year.

To digress slightly I have to say I was disappointed that Snow Patrol didn't win anything.  Their album was the best of last year by far.

i didnt see the brits and havent done so for a few years now.i get disappointed that rubbish seem to walk away with the awards.

like the previous poster said - the snow patrol album is excellent as are many others from last year that were probably ignored in favour of chart pap

I think the streets deserved to win an award.They are a change to the norm.If we're talking unworthy winners could someone please explain to me how on earth did Robbie Williams win an award for the best song in the past 25 years with Angels?????Now that's what I call totally un-deserved!!

How did he win British Male Solo Artist? He's British. And Male. Arguably solo as he writes and performs the tracks. And he's a recording "artist".

Skinner is different, talented and original. Comparing him and Will Young is like comparing apples and potholes.

Maybe they are as different as apples and potholes, I was only comparing the two because they were both nominated in the same category. I agree Skinner is different, talented and original; but I thought The Brits was about music?

The Streets produce/create music. I'm missing your point here.
I'm not even a big fan but it's nice to hear something different at least. Someone entering a televised karaoke competition and then covering an old ballad is just a bit too predictable for my liking, but each to their own.

Agree with Wally. They are both bad anyway. Thing is, I consider myself a serious music fan, therefore don't take a blind bit of notice. It's for industry people to get drunk and kiss some rear end's. Any ceremony with Will young and Robbie Williams isnt about music is it?
