,I've just finished reading the above, must admit I struggled but ploughed on to the end - but how does it end? We are left with Lili in a wheelchair by the Elbe,while Anna and Carlisle disappear and don't return, have they left her to die? I've a good imagination,love reading, but this has left me mystified.How have any of you interpreted the ending? Be interested in your comments

Haven't read the book but saw the film which I found extremely boring. In the end Lili died.
