How can an MP be taken seriously when he is setting a male prostitute? And TBH they shouldn't be on drugs. That can lead to all sorts of trouble. Including hypocrisy

I think that begs the question, dannyk. What shouldn't a politican do? Get into a scandal. What's a scandal? Something a politician shouldn't get into.
At the moment it seems the Mirror has decided that Vaz has done something scandalour; and yet I'm not that bothered because I don't thnk it's a scandal.
There was as I recall a "scandal" over David Mellor having sex with his girlfreind in a Chelsea strip. This detail it turned out was fabricated by Max Clifford, who was subsequently involved in something really scandalous. Clifford earns my contempt. Vaz and Mellor don't.

For me the line is simple....They have to stay within the law. I don’t expect my MP to be someone of whose private life I approve or who I feel that I could like or make a friend of. I expect them to do the best they can for their constituents, all of their constituents not just a particular group. Substitute customer for constituent and its about the same I expect from my dentist or plumber.
I think a question of judgement comes into it.
Whatever good, someone like Vaz done in his career will be questioned next time he gets up to speak, and if he thinks that isn't the case, then that ability of judgement is being ignored.
If these accusations are proved to be true, then there is a section of the public that will no longer have faith in him. That is already proven here on AB, by people that think that he is an MP because of his race and colour, not by any abilities that he has.
When someone gets up to speak on any subject, I would want to be able to judge and believe what he is saying, not to have doubts about why he is saying it.
The late Cyril Smith had many faults, paedophilia amongst them. But one of his other sins was that he fought tooth and nail against legislation to curb the use and care of asbestos. He didn't argue against the eventual legislation because he believed it wasn't necessary.......he did so because the asbestos firm in his Constituency paid him to do so.
