As of this morning I believe there are 5,690,017 signatures on the petition to revoke article 50 and remain in the EU. Will the government pay attention do you think?
I expect the government must already know that almost half the population wanted to remain being controlled by the EU elite, and a portion of them have refused to accept the result of the vote. The government shouldn't need a petition to point it out to them. Government and parliament must be aware though that this country likes to claim it is a democracy and as such disrespecting the result would be at their, and the nation's, peril.
Probably they will ignore it -- but I'm sure no-one would be foolish enough as to assume that everyone who supports remaining in the EU has signed the petition already.
In as much as it's possible to know, it seems that something like 5-10% of Leavers have changed their minds, and around 5% of Remainers have too. So in that sense the main factors that would affect a second vote are (a) turnout, and (b) demographic changes since 2016.
Each of these amendment treaties drop the member nations further into the EU mire.
Each must be beyond the Pale for a larger group of member nation citizens.
Wot I Think..
I am soon to be 63 and since I was 18, have always tried to carry out what I saw as my democratic duty to vote in elections and referendums. With regret I now feel unable to ever vote again, as I seem to have been labouring under the misapprehension that in a democracy our elected M.P`s are honour bound to carry out the wishes of the majority, but this only seems to apply if they agree with what we voted to do.
Woe- betide the next politician to knock on my door and ask me to vote.
Is to much to ask that they be decent right thinking people and say "Do you know what, we get paid a lot of money to move heaven and earth to carry out what we are asked to do, and do it we will"
I know fantasy land, but I can dream.
