opposition

If the Lib Dems were to form a government, which part would be 'The Opposition'? Would it simply be the party that came second? Can't you just imagine the miserable faces of the ones who came third?! (I have no political axe to grind over this, it's just that the election looks like being the most interesting for decades.

I'm no expert but am under the impression that, without one party having an over-all majority, Gordon Brown will continue to be PM even if Labour were to be in third place in terms of the number of votes. Please someone correct me if that's wrong. I think it's important to have one party strong enough to govern, even if we don't like it! Other parties would have to sort out for themselves an opposition. Makes me wonder what would happen with 'proportional representation'.
