A relaxing of the rules of MPs expenses!!! what???

They are being allowed to claim more money for accommodation in these oh so difficult times and more for travel, just heard this on Sky News and thought it must be April 1st today

Hi Bobbi,I haven't seen the news but I think if if its to do with their work then they can claim these expenses. If its for anything other than work-related they can't and shouldn't really be able to.

A awful lot of people work and at the end of the week have something which they have produced .What have the opposition for instance produced in the last year ? How much did it cost the tax payer ?

Bobbi.......I worked 100 hours a week and loved every minute of it.........but I was paid..............a pittance........but I was paid.

Would I have worked for nothing? Who pays the rent, the butcher, the baker, the electricity.........need I go on?

It´s just that people keep "banging on about the bankers, the Politicians, the Entrepreneurs.................it gets on yer t1ts after a while ;-)...

They are relaxing the rules as MP's are struggling on the low wage they get for their primary role to afford childcare and travelling expenses.

I wonder how the rest of the population cope with such expenses?

Feel free to try and defend the MP's if you wish, I am not saying they should work for nothing. However if they had to budget their income to the nearest pound like a lot of people maybe they would have a better understanding of how the country is coping in these wonderful times.

Do we need them all to travel to London to cast their vote when so much can be done via secure internet terminals, they have promised high speed broadband for all so they could work from home negating the requirement for travel and childcare expenses. It would also allow the public to be able to get hold of their local MP when they need them rather than the usual answer of them being away somewhere else sorting things out for someone else's constituency!

My mate was an MP (1997-2002).
He managed perfectly well on the money he received and didn't feel the need to inflate his expenses claims.
He travelled to and from London by rail on an almost daily basis and was thrilled to be able to serve the people of the town he loved......

JTH..Good on "your mate" but clearly he was the exception to the rule.
My response was to the post of weecalf who was asking " how many MPs would work for their country for nothing.

THH.....I think that a vote in the House other than personally made would be invalid.

Whats the difference between expenses and bills .I pay my bills . I dont have expences.Maybe if these M Ps were told just pay you BILLS and get on with it the rest of the country is doing it every day .

my friends brother was a prominent MP sqad, in these days of austerity that even you will feel with Euro going into free-fall, they need to get their priorities right and lead by example

In addition to being elected as an MP, my mate, (Tony) also became a hobby-bobby in order to ensure that he had a more thorough understanding of both sides of the 'Police v Crime' situation..........whilst being a husband and father of 2 children.

Our politics differed greatly but I was then and always will be impressed by the dedication he brought to his time as an MP.
