All this trouble and fighting with Police are they all on drugs. Years back when people went on a demo there was never any fighting with Police and there was never any deaths or was there ?



It was a Thursday, but many employed workers had taken the day off to show solidarity with the unemployed. When mounted and foot police launched a series of truncheon charges, the workers fought back with banner poles and torn-up park railings.

Three days later, a second demonstration of 150,000 assembled in Trafalgar Square. Again, the police attacked, the workers fought back, and speeches continued from the platform.

Two days after that, a third demonstration battled police cordons to reach Parliament and present a million-signature petition. 80,000 workers broke through. Running battles continued across the West End into the night.

tth - no i can't.. we should not be doing this i agree but we should not have been involved in iraq or afghanistan either.
there are plenty of other dictators that are treating their fellow countrymen horrifically but nothing is being done about them and what right do we have as a country to tell them how to behave.
a share of that countries oil is all i can think of for their reasoning.

i was living in s wales during all the trouble with miners and maggie so i do understand. just want to see this country at peace and working towards a future and an independant future not being beholden to any one particular other country.

mrs thatcher was the only leader this countries had since winston churchill. I wish she was well enough to lead us out of the mess the likes of tony blair and gordon brown have left us in now.. alas she isn't , mores the pity.

still don't understand this latest demo. not exactly voluntary if they had to be bussed in by the t u c and it was planned 6 months ago.
i was made redundant twice with small children to care and provide for and just got on with it and grafted until i found something and something better always came along. life is like that - why do public sector workers think they deserve better conditions than the rest of us? if they think it is so cushy outside public sector then leave and get a job in the private sector - they might fall on their marching feet. don't winge do something positive about it.
as my grandchildren say "man-up".

Whenever there is a 'core' objective to a protest march, there will be satellite groups hell-bent of causing havoc and mayhem.

Obviously the police didnt go in nearly hard enough. Next time they should have rubber bullets, water cannon and tear gas at the ready.

bobbisox.. I have alot of friends in wales,but i've never lived there. I worked for british leyland in the early seventies and saw the effect the unions had on industry.up until then i was all for the working mans rights etc but after seeing these shop stewards in the car industry walking around spouting off about how they'd bring the company to a standstill etc.. I realised then that they were too powerful and i welcomed maggy coming along and kicking them into touch. I always remember arthur (i'm so powerful) scargill banging his hand on the table saying "i will bring this government down" Well all he did was make the likes of maggy more firm. and rightly so..

thanks for the answer sammo I am in no way a fan of Mr Scargill btw but it wasn't just the mines that took the hammer blow from the Thatcher Government, the steel workers and ship building industry did, her Government decided it was better to import steel and coal from Ploand
