What should the FA do with Rooney?

It is most likely that the weak FA will either give Rooney a strong reprimand or impose a fine upon him.

Neither would be appropriate for this foul; mouthed individual, it is no use hitting the pocket of someone who gets thousands of pounds a week, and a reprimand would just roll off his back.

I say suspend him for a few matches with a loss of pay, but we all know this is not going to happen, in a game that is no longer a game but just big business.

living on past glories does not give him, or anyone, the right to say and do exactly what they want Triggs.

Whether he likes it or not, he is seen as a role model for children (Gawd help the kids!), and he's paid enough to realise that what he says and does impacts on these impressionable children. Sadly though, the guys too bloody dim to realise it and will continue to make an arse of himself.
The guy is a total idiot. Ok, so I'm sure we all have moments where we swear at work and I'm sure we have all seen a manager on the sidelines mutter a word under his breath that gets caught on camera. There's a difference between that and what Rooney did though. He was celebrating a goal (what did he have to swear about at this stage) and on seeing the camera, made a decisio to look straight into the lens and swear. OK, so you might not be offended about swearing but I am totally against kids having to hear this kind of thing. I'm sorry but in my opinion the guy is pond scum, in all aspects. It's a shame some children actually look up to him. And as a pointer, did he not learn from the world cup that swearing down the camera doesn't win you fans? Complete idiot.
There will be players on the pitch at the FA cup final, on a Saturday afternoon, who will let slip the occasional expletive.............the difference is that they haven't got a steady-cam jammed up their nose at the time......
I agree with b00, I know kids are subjected to his sort of language elsewhere but it would be better if they remembered they are playing to the cameras too. I wonder if baby potato head Kai is subjected to this at home.

Not quite, he swore not only at the Nation, but also the World.

/// As swearing is now the norm on TV (including the F word) and is supposedly used for comic effect I fail to see how he is judged to have done something wrong.///

Swearing for comic effect is one thing, but swearing with aggression is quite another.

as an extremely high paid high profile Triggs, he's paid to represent this country. I don't want it representing by an over paid Chav, we have enough problems with poor chavs without paying em to look wazzocks to the rest of the world.
What a load of fuss over nothing.

He is not the first footballer to have swore. His obscenity was barely audible. I watched the game live on TV and didn't even hear it live, we were celebrating his goal. I have since listen the clip several times, and if you didn't know what he said, you would be hard pushed to make it out.

Listen to the YouTube clip. It is not clever or nice, but it is hardly an hanging offence.

I don't want him to do anything.

What I'd ideally like is to see him and his ilk paid a lot less for what they actually do, so they concentrate fully on the game itself. Perhaps if they did that they'd be too knackered to swear at any TV cameras and everything else they get upto in their spare time.
Practically every game on TV you will lip read some rather naughty expletives, so what can they do? If you can`t stand the heat etc, etc, and kids don`t give a Sugar about swearing nowadays, as if they ever did, I never have.
