Why are the staff of these places upset about not having the day off for the RW?It just does not seem feasible to me to allow staff the day off, it is a business they are running after all

Morning all

I work in the NHS and we been given it as an extra days holiday added to our entitlement to take whenever we want as we cannot really close and this is better than them paying us double time as Bank Hol pay. I prefer it this way as I dont usually work Fridays anyway. I think everyone should get it as an extra days hol as we do.
I also agree Ron but as yet no-one on the thread has moaned that they haven't got the day off or think they should.
I'm a little bit miffed about people on here moaning about having to go to work on a particular day or days, both my Daughter & Sil working in the public sector have been made redundent causing all sort of problems with mortgage etc, & guess what, there are hundred of jobs out there waiting to be filled, NOT. Ron.

ron I am a little perplexed too, the majority on this thread haven't moaned about not having the day off
T.O.H, thats the way it should be to make it it fair all round, only the ones you see in the headlines in the link...x
well if they'd paid attention at school they'd have a proper job.
Question Author
controversial as ever R1
R1 who are "they"?
All Public Holiday and Bank Holiday working is voluntary in many retail companies for a start, and the advice of the unions is that the shifts on these days should first be offered to weekend staff who only do a small number of hours and the weekday staff should only be used if there are not enough volunteers.
and condescending

maybe in the likes of JL?
but most certainly not where I have worked, your name is down and you work it...!
I am really talking about people in general re the press headline.
/// Wedding day blues for thousands of royal fans///
Sorry I gave the impression I was complaining about posters to this thread.Ron.
dotty it is not voluntary to work on a bank holiday, if you are on the rota to work it, then you work it
I understand what you mean whiskeyron. The people who dont work, wont get the benefit and I would probably be miffed if I was out of work. Perhaps if Prince William could donate so much of his money to give each one of the people on the dole and little bonus for that day, but then that would cause a rumpus as we all know that there are a lot on the dole that shouldnt be.
Sorry to hear about your daughter and son in law out of work. Me and my OH have both been there and know how it feels. Hope they are lucky soon xx
who do you think gina, did you follow the link? Woul anyone think working in retail slavery for minimum wage was a career move?
some people did pay attention at school, some people have degrees and still work in the retail industry,
Question Author
it is a worthwhile job R1 where the recipients are treat like dirt on customers shoes at times!
"All Public Holiday and Bank Holiday working is voluntary in many retail companies"

Years ago it may have been but it now forms part of the working week for most and those who do it voluntarily, as per their contract, are very much in the minority
-- answer removed --
Cant see the shops being too busy on that day to be honest anyway.....
TOH, you said what I was going to - the NHS is getting the holiday, those of us who can, take it as a BH, those who have to work (front line) will take it some other day, as per every BH.
