I think we need a big overhaul on how we treat the scum of Britain! Seriously need to get to grips with it!

I don't know what the answer is, and I 'm not saying it's easy but something has to change!

Sorry for my rant but I'm in that kind of mood today!

You may well be right. I was basing my assessment on the foloowing report.
// A teenager is being questioned by detectives after a four-year-old girl was hit in the face by a brick as her father remonstrated with a group of youths. //

However, the story now emerging is somewhat different.
// The 23-year-old said a group of youngsters were kicking a ball against his vehicle and he told them to stop doing it because it was "scaring the girls".
He said as he started to drive off, a youth then threw an object at the window. //

It would appear that physical harm to the occupants of the van was the motive and not vandalism.
Gromit....no problem.
JTH - although it kills me to side with AOG on any point, I'm sure I read not too long ago about some kind of options with a view to replicating the benefits NS brought - not necessarily military but community based projects that would life skills - unpaid - to certain groups of youths. I don't think this would be a bad idea.
I personally think anyone going into further education, long term employment, or trainee / apprentice placements should be excempt, but those chosing to, essentially, just drop into the massive pool of unskilled, out of work youths, should be enrolled into such a scheme if they don't find work within 3 months of finishing education.
AOG doesn't mean anything other than a spell undertaking the rigours of military discipline, Pa___ul.

Which is why I have asked him to explain just how he feels such a programme would be of benefit in 21st Century.
Are we to believe that national service is the cure all that politicians have been looking for ?And is there and evidence that conscription/national service in countries around the world today actually helps eradicate anti-social behaviour?Or arent some people just exaggerating the power of national service and living in a fantasy world?
JTH - fair do's, I'll wait to hear his side.
Teddy - as I said earlier, I'm still clinging onto the fence with this, but I do think it's an option that should be investigated further. The easy life is too easy for them at the mo, I think that's the biggest problem!
I think this may also begin to address the problem of those who are..ahem.. earning through other means!
Don't agree with NS - You must have a deterrent. All damages should be in the remit of a judge by that I mean , restitution to the little girl, damage to the van, any losses incurred by the father, the costs of the police, ambulance and hospital staff. Then after this has been assesed you fine the offender give him 200 hours community service and further offence all of the above but substitute CS with jail.

Until the politicians and judicial people start actualy looking at what is going on in the real world this is just going to continue.

Intent or not is not the point, its the fact that some scroat feels that he can commit the act of throwing a brick.

Jailing the killers of that girl in the take away for 30 years min, is a very good start.
OK let's look at the situation.
Civilisation surely means people who are civilised living as a group together with certain basic rules to govern their society. The 'people' we are talking about here are not civilised & have no intention of becoming civilised therefore they should not be allowed to live in a civilised society until they have been educated to certain expected levels. They should be segregated & be put by law in places where they will learn these disiplines until they are capable of living in the way that civilisation decrees, call it what you will '' National Service'' ''Boot Camp'' whatever, but we should not have to put up with the disgracefull behaviour that we are having to tolerate from some members of our youths & children.Ron.
Dave, the benefits of that are obvious, however, as I've recently discovered through a personal case, judges are reluctant to fine criminals who won't be able to afford the charges on the basis that they may resort to further crime in order to pay the fines. Right or wrong is debatable, an understandable concern, though, undoubtedly!
We only need a bit harsher punishments and strong family values and role models.

Unfortunately few of these things sound like Shariah Law to many. And therefore they do not want that. So until these people will change mind about that, just keep watching.
The old "National Service" chestnut rears its stupid head again.
I've said it before and I'll say it again: If you want to see what military training does for thuggery, just glance at the new reports in local papers in areas such as Aldershot.

Having lived in Farnborough, I can assure you that there is nothing so scary as a drunken squaddie on a night out with his fellow yobs.
rojash, If that is the case then it is not how I remember disipline in the armed services, if any of us caused a fracas in a local town & were caught it was regarded as a very serious offence & was dealt with accordingly, so it would appear that things have deteriorated in that direction also. National Service worked in it's day & I see no reason why it would not work again, it gives young people a sense of belonging & teaches them how to behave sensibly & those that break the rules get the punishment they deserve. I am afraid however that until we get governments who can carry out the will of the people who after all put them there to do & make laws that the people want them to, we wre going to get precisely nowhere. Ron.
Ron exactly the problem. What people remember and whats actually true does seem to get blurred in the mists of time. There's nothing as great as nostalgia , and nothing as far from reality either in my opinion.
Teddy_boy.....true, very true.......but all we have is nostalgia.

In two or three decades time that is all you will have.

I wonder which of the two nostalgias would be the pleasanter?
sqad, I get nostalgic about nostalgia.Ron.

It just boils down to a simple thought and that is, youth, hoodies, scum, whoever they are.............. they just don't seem to care about anyone else and have no consequence to their actions!

I worry so much about my children growing up and what country we are leaving our future with and where we start I just don't know! Some have tried standing up to these scum, but unfortunately have lost their lives doing it!

And when their on drugs, what chance do we have? Their playing with a different set of rules to us!

Sad times!
It was extremely stupid to stop his van to confront these youths, just because a ball bounced off his van!!
Does this guy not read the papers watch the news, did he not think of the outcome of his actions?
