so next time I am away from home and someone asks me to say" Whay Aye"(which has happened often) or strikes up a rendition of the Blaydon Races
do I report this to the Police? and have them done for blatant racism....too daft for words imo!

worth investing in the set WY, It will give you may a well needed laugh
Just as a matter of interest, now that everyone I come into contact with wears a name brooch I always with respect call them by name ( of course stating my own name) I always treat all as I wish to be treated, & I think that these shortened race & locality names are stupid & should be treated with the derision they deserve ( World Citizen Ron.)

As this is the News section (and therefore a little more serious than some of the other sections) it is not unusual to be asked to provide facts to bolster an argument/assertion/point of view.
It saves us from the "......well known fact/s that..." which actually aren't; or the "......everyone knows......." when they don't, etc.

The bar may be set a little higher here in terms of debate and anyone venturing in her, either to ask or answer, must be prepared to be disabused of any notion not standing up to scutiny.

in India, it is referred to as casteism which does exist just as the Chinese make slure against the Japanese apparently. it was too long an editorial and would bore people, I was asked to back up my post, .....

not sure about that Anne, can't see any of the 'usuals'..lol
As with many things, it isn't actually what was done or said, but the intend behind it; which is all to difficult to establish and can be used as an excuse by those who do wish to abuse and get away with it. It seems to me that there are a fair few folk willing to be witness that for this particular incident the complainant was mistaken in thinking the song was being played in order to insult them.

They have the right to make an official complaint, and the police have to follow it up. Arguably this sort of thing is too minor for this to be official and "waste" police time on, certainly by the same reasoning all sorts of insults could become police matters. Getting a bit like the US isn't it. At what point do we judge a matter should come into the public authority domain?

It is all just rather unfortunate, and suggests maybe the complainant was being overly sensitive on this occasion. But for now we need to let the investigation come to a conclusion.
