What's that all about?
Is Ken Clarke on this planet?
so, we have over populated prisons in this country but releasing this type of person back into the community after only serving half the term is total madness

The scumbag who did this on Monday wants locking up for a longer time not shorter

Sqad - you have to see that a consensual sex session turning out badly is a million miles (there's that phrase again!) from a man who attacks and violates a total stranger.

Because of the social and exual tabboos woven into this dreadful crime, it is difficult for an innocent man to receive a fair trial, or for an assaulted woman to feel that she has received proper justiice without the overwhemlimg feeling that the legal process has simply emotionally assaulted her all over again.

As i think you admit with you last post to jack - your premise is on pretty shaky ground!
Andy ..your paragraph could have been interpreted in two ways and it would appear thati interpreted it in the wrong way.
I agree with halving the sentence...i assume that before this comes in they will be doubling the sentence tariffs!
A fair point sqd - one of the drawbacsk of written communication!

i think i should have clarified my point by adding that although a number of men view rape as a woman's fantasy, that in no way entitles any man to decide to act it out for her unless he has received her express consent in advance, and they have an agreed code word so she can stop him at any time.
it's an absolute legal minefield proving rape or not. I found this interesting site on Google when I typed in 'aggravated assault vs Rape'

Now we have PCD, rape is not really a crime any more.

Ken Clarke shoudl have been fired ages ago. He ws bought in to shut up the lefties who bleated no Tory had the experience of Bottler (Thank God).

Now the coalition does have experience, get shot of the closet commie.
Can you use the words 'Ken Clarke' and 'closet Commie' in the same sentence - or even in the same universe????

youngmafbog can.

But then his posts repeatedly show that he mostly resides on Planet Boozer!
Blame the criminal justice system which not only allows "plea bargaining", but also allows "tariffs" to dictate length of sentence instead of adhering to the letter of the law.

When all factors are taken into consideration and mitigation, the original charges are very often lost in a welter of legal arguments and thousands of words from hordes of legal eagles who are the only ones who usually gain from these things.

Clarke is reflecting an already dangerous and worrying system which is so out of control that so called natural justice is rarely achieved. I would strongly advise anyone who has never been to a court of law to try to do so - it's more like a soap opera than a bastion of public service where justice is meant to be meted out.

did you think he went anywhere to redeeming himself last night on QT, I thought he was a pompous ass, but he did have the backing of the majority of the audience, it seems
I quite agree but on the other hand what about the innocent ones who have pleaded their innocence from day one and then found guilty on shaky cicumstantial evidence and Not identified by the victim where does that leave them 15+ years for being innocent and no parole because they are not admitting to the crime that they. Didnt commit
