Is the British compensation system totally unfair for some?

Sharon Shoesmith is expected to receive as much as £1millon in compensation, for being sacked from her job.

And this Austrian multi-millionaire is paid £372,000 compensation for the six days he spent in a British prison.

Yet Paratrooper Ben Parkinson who lost both legs, broke his back and suffered terrible brain damage, severely affecting his speech, received a paltry £152,000 in compensation.

No,It is not fair,and as Shoesmith is not motivated by money,will She be giving Compensation payout to a Childrens Charity. I won't hold my breath.!!

It depends what they are being compensated for.

Shoesmith will largely be loss of earnings. She was on a big wage x 10 years and it is easy yo get to £1 milliom.

of course it's unfair. The first two cases deserve every penny. The third payout is woefully inadequate.

Can only hope for some common sense, she won because procedure had not been followed, they should take into account if it had she would probably have still been sacked and therefore no furute salary to compensate for. But then again...........................

The Government are reviewing Compensation payments.

The bad news, its aim is to slash payments to victims to save money.

Ben Parkinson undertook a job where the risk is clearly part of what should be expected by any soldier.

"Compensation" per se is not an appropriate concept in the circumstances. He should receive the disability pension.

Note also that he was ultimately awarded 580,000 pounds.

No it's not - it's because of men like my dad who was a paratrooper in WW2. He wasn't highly paid, or highly trained, he didn't do it for money and he didn't participate in the illegal invasion of another sovereign nation. He helped to defend this country because it was his duty.
