So to say you are a Scot gives you a sense of identity ( you are not just British ) and we try to narrow it down even more by claiming to belong to a particular town or a local football team and the more impressive attributes you can quote the greater it reflects on your identity .

Quizmonster, seems someone got out the wrong side of the bed.
I have had many scottish friends over the years, worked with lots,
but that never stopped them running England down, bringing up battles hundreds of years ago, between the Scottish and the English, why, and would take the English pound, drink English beer, and then told anyone who would listen how great the old country was, yet hadn't set foot in the place for 20 years. I did enjoy my times there, and would i am sure again, but don't tell me about it, i did put up with it, mostly goodnaturedly but at times it got on my wick.

em, I am a proud Highland Scot but I don't think I have mentioned any old battles, the clearances, the regicide of Mary or any of the other countless atrocities in the past. I am only concerned with the present and the future prospects for Scotland once Independence is regained.
To be treated as an equal nation with the same rights and responsibilities as our southern neighbour will be a refreshing change.
I admit that I lived and worked firth of Scotland for 20 years and not only in England.
Scots have established themselves all over the globe and generally we are well received - even the tartan army of football fans.
To be for Scotland does not mean that I am anti English, nor do I run them down or denigrate them in any way.
I thought I should set my personal record down on this matter.
Finally em I am sure it is very quiet at that time of a Sunday morning. Perhaps I will try it sometime or maybe not. Regards Rich.

Rich it is, once the traffic gets going its hard to get any peace.
I was referring to many who have lived, and worked in England for much of their lives. One woman colleague, friend, said her and her hubby left Aberdeen because it was too damn cold!! The people i have met, socialised with in Edinburgh, Glasgow and some more rural places were kindness personified.

Rich The only problem i have with people, is their unwillingness to accept that some times their own people have played a part in the countries woes, Highland Scot, againt Lowland Scot, and not all Landowners were English aristocracy. History is a vary variable subject, and being revised all the time. Neil Oliver is an excellent presenter, and his History of Scotland should be watched by everyone. Fascinating, insightful and very rewarding. Because most people seem to know almost nothing of their countries history, which is a shame.
