In view of this and other such incidents, plus the calls for a nation wide ban on the burka falling on deaf ears, I wonder if for security reasons it would be lawful for banks, shops, travel agents etc to ban anyone wearing a burka from entering their premises?

sqad - "I find it inconceivable that someone can walk into a bank with their face concealed" - that means the entire female population of Liverpool, Newcastle and Essex will never be able to enter a bank again... including half their staff.
Aye that was a joke but only as much as this whole lark is becoming, for a start the 'calls for a nation wide bad' didn't fall on deaf ears, they fell in rational ears that also listen to calls not to. Gromit's point is obviously hugely valid, if businesses were to alienate a certain group of people, any group supporting their cause would most likely boycott it so it would be bad business sense.
Thirdly, and most importantly, threats can come in all kinds of guises... http://usgovinfo.abou...istic/a/oldrobber.htm at least if we banned these oldies it might speed up the queues!!

drfilth, why not give it a go.
wear a burka, then put your bone dome on. then walk in to a bank. when they ask you to remove the helmet you can oblige, but still remain mysterious. eh voila, your modesty is preserved.
the only condition, is that you must always wear a burqa when riding your bike - assuming that the two items of attire serve exactly the same purpose.

If a customer has to remove a crash helmet so that his face can be seen then common sense says that every customer`s face should be seen. It`ll never happen though because someone will shout "religious discrimination". I don`t think any bank would want to damage their reputation by being seen to ban the burka. These banks have islamic bank accounts for muslims. They won`t tout for their business and alienate them at the same time.
