Banned or not?

Home Secretary Theresa May has officially banned a planned march by the EDL tomorrow. However, they are still allowed to congregate and conduct a 'static' demonstration in a rural market town. What's the chances it will be peaceful?

The whole modus operandi of the EDL is to cause trouble in towns they don't belong. Any headlines good or bad is just publicity to a rather desperate and increasingly sinister organisation.

i have always spoken up for the edl to be free to march but after the other night when they attacked police i agree with this *** that the march should be banned

I have being following West Mercia police on twitter (for information about any trouble round here) and they are saying that they are going to be present, etc in anticipation of any trouble.

I agree I would think all large gatherings of people should be banned in the light of the recent trouble (religious assemblies excluded of course). The chances of the great unwashed grunting and shuffling their feet for any length of time seems very slim.

Wellington's not quite the rural market town to me though I guess as a Shropshire lass it's one of the less rural ones there. I really hope it doesn't kick off trouble, one of my best friends from home is getting married not too far from there tomorrow so I don't want anything to impact on her special day.

Quite ironic I get to escape post riot Manchester and nerves about trouble near to me with the Caribbean Carnival in Moss Side this weekend, renown for some gang trouble and was thinking how nice to escape back to sleepy Shropshire for the weekend!

Saying that, there was an EDL protest here a few weekends ago. I got off the bus into town to hoards of police although it turned out to be a bit of a damp squib, looked like more police when I was there and the Libyan protesters were more lively - hopefully a good sign of some facist apathy. Very different from the last EDL/anti facist clash where the riot police had the protest fenced off and surrounded.

Since there is also much criminal activity at the Notting Hill Carnival perhaps that should also be banned, especially this year's?

But still if they did ban it, the ladies would loose the opportunity to try on the helmets of the dreaded police officers.

What do you mean "Don't Belong", isn't this still a free country to journey to where one likes?

Most genuine demonstrations gather in London and end up with a petition handed in at Downing Street. The EDL instead go to high immigrant areas where non of them live and cause disruption designed to annoy the local population. This techniques was first used in the 70s by the National Front. The similarities do not end there.

Gromit, how on earth can you mention that the EDL caused trouble in areas they did not live in and not say that the rioters also travelled to areas they did not live in to burn, loot and cause mayhem.

Because I do not believe rioters travelled to areas to riot. They wrecked their own communities. The EDL are travelling 200 miles+ to wreck someone else's community.

It is frightening that the 'Far Left' seems to be quite acceptable.

Did the rioters have fleets of coaches parked up waiting to take them and their ill-gotten gains back to whichever stones they had crawled out from under?

Can you prove that. Everyone who has appeared in court in Manchester was local. I do not recall seeing anyone from Newcastle, London, Portsmouth or Derby emerging from Manchester Magistrates Court.

If you have any evidence (a link please) of anyone travelling a great distance to riot, I will be pleased to see it.

No it isn't. Any evidence that that occurred please post. The evidence from people appearing in court is that most lived a short distance from where they were caught.

Bloody 'ell Gromit don't you get worked up??!! I've just read it that's all, but I put a question mark after it cos I wasn't 100% certain. Obviously you think all looters keep to their own area, but that may be the case or it may not.
