This is a difficult question as we need to drop our prejudices.
Try not to be political but who is the best leader of their party ?
You may not agree with what they say or do but from their parties point of you who is doing the best job ?

I'm not Scottish nor live in Scotland, but Alex Salmond of the SNP seems to be on the ball. Certainly has Labour on the back foot in Scotland.

Cameron - All spin, not bright enough
Milliband - Wet and wimpy
Clegg - Sell out, lying weasle
Griffin - Not much party left
Caroline Lucas - A bit anonymous
Nigel Farage - Twit
Therese Muchewicz - Bet you cannot guess who she leads?
Therese Green?
ahh! - that Therese Muchewicz - Veritas - the Political Party that likes to
tell "The Truth" - no such thing, they must be Charlatans!! :o)

I like your anwers Gromit but are they your opinions or those of their parties ?

I would place them Salmond, Miliband ,Farage ,Cameron and Clegg in that order. Salmond has the full backing of his party.
Miliband challenges well which suits most of his party but until he becomes independant of the unions he wont be able to sell his party to the nation. .
Farage has the backing of most of his his party . He would be better if he was less abrasive.
Cameron is not strong enough especially with regards to Europe . His party wants a more anti europe regulations approach as does the country .
Clegg has lost it .His party are disallusioned and he can't rally them.
As for Therese well I've had a drink so all I can say is " in vino veritis " I don't know who she is.
ooooooooooooh...you were so close,modeller ;-)
Alex Salmond by a mile
Best leader?

Alan Hope.
Question Author
Yes I think Alan Hope certainly commands support from most of his party .
Are you a member Philtaz ?
Only in spirit modeller....!
Caroline Lucas isn't really anonymous to me because I voted for her gang in the last election.

However, having never been a member of any of the parties whose leaders you've listed, and only being privy to what I'm told about them by our politically biased media, I'm not in a position to judge who is the better party leader.

A leader should put his own citizens first. But all of the current bunch are too worried about their own egos or how they will look in tomorrows newpaper. Point scoring is their only aim.

The person I have been mostly impressed with is Geo Osborne. He is doing a difficult job, does not waver from the job in hand and sticks to his principles.

Teresa May makes a good runner up.
Question Author
steve and rov You may be right as far as the country goes but my question was // who is the best leader of their party ? // They could be useless for the country but are they doing what their party itself wants and needs ?

Gromit you called Nigel Farage a twit but is he doing what the UKIP members want and needs ? By the way I thought you were anti Europe and Farage is certainly that.

I deliberately use the word Needs because thats the future of their parties and where leadership comes in , to convince the party you are right .
As a leader, I find myself in agreement with Gromit - Alex Salmond has got his party behind him and raised its profile.

A lot of the best leaders aren't actually leading at the moment - perhaps they're waiting in the wings until nearer the next election, so that someone else can take the flak for the current mess?
Gerry Adams of Sinn Fein must be a candidate. He took his party from being a discredited mouthpiece for a terrorist organisation to being one of the leading parties in Northern Ireland. A man who, whether you agree with him or not, is entirely dedicated to the cause of his party and has managed to lead it largely intact through its various changes. He also commands the grudging respect of his political opponents, though you'd scarcely hear most of them admit it.

There's something about Alex Salmond I really don't like, though that may just be me.
All party leaders seem to be defined by their image, which is rather unfortunate. It's hard not to despise Nick Clagg, however. I like Nigel Farage as a person: unfortunately his views are mainly ridiculous :-)
As I"ve heard that brevity is the soul of wit, these two comments must
count as damning indictments.

When asked what they thought of David Cameron -

Barack Obama - "Cameron,oh,he"s a Lightweight"
Rupert Murdoch - "Not much"
Question Author
Yep he's darn right.
To be fair, Obama said it of Cameron when he was in opposition and a new leader. Saying that, Cameron showed spectacularly bad judgement appointing Andy Coulsen and his tendency to say one thing then do another is confusing.

modeller, I am pro Europe. Though I though that waiting and seeing before we joined (or didn't join) the Euro was the right course, and so it has proven to be.
In cameron's defence, it should be noted that the Conservatives should have split into two parties long before now. In most circumstances, a broad church would be good, but in politics, it leaves the party unfocused. The Conservatives must have the widest extremes than the rest of the parties. The leader is steering a vaguely pro-Europe stance, while a whole schism is devoutly anti-European.
Question Author
Gromit
With the exception of the Liberals I think most parties are split on Europe.

//I am pro Europe. // I can't believe you . Not from your posts in general.
Are you saying you agree with the regulations that pour out of the EU
especially the human rights and safety at work which has cost lives because the police were not allowed to go into the pond and save those children or those who could not enter the gunman's house and he shot the occupants,. Are you in favour of a central government which over rides ours. We are already more than half way there as illustrated by being forced to release convicted errorists.
