What will be the outcome to all this?
Why are these activists causing so much trouble?
/// Meanwhile Northern Irish TV presenter Gloria Hunniford arrived by taxi at the site this morning. It was unclear if she was supporting the travellers, or calling for them to leave.///
Speaking up for her own county folk, no doubt?

Preferably while blasting out Ride of the Valkyries from an enormous set of speakers?
There's no point doing such things if you can't do them in style, after all.

Zeuhl & Kromovaracun
Very easy to poo poo an idea especially when one has not got an alternative idea.
But first let me say Kromovaracun added a little humour to his answer, unlike Zeuhl who first made the mistake of saying the Army flew Chinooks and then later got it right by stating the RAF did. Then he reverted to his usual rudeness by calling me a " silly old man". just no need for it.
He then comes up with his solution, ///The real solution will be the usual, tedious, hands-on business of dragging the people out one by one or waiting until they get tired of standing on scaffolding with ropes round their necks and come down for a cup of tea.///
Yeh! that is really going to happen, don't you think more children will be hurt in the skirmish that would take place, than any that may be crushed under a vehicle? Which would not take place anyway because the troops would clear the area first, before they attempted to remove the vehicles via helicopters.
He then went on,
/// Not exciting - just effective and without the unwelcome bonus of small children being crushed under caravans being lifted out by helicopters! ///
Er, crushed under caravans while the caravan is being lifted up????? How is that going to happen, only if they lower the caravans down onto them.
Perhaps you would do better to engage your brain before tapping the keys Zeuhl?

Dear dear dear. Old Git ...
If the troops clear the people away first why would you need to move the vans by helicopter?
Just admit it was a silly idea - I know it has taken you nearly 24 hours to concoct your reply but when you're in a hole you should simply stop digging.
And I didn't call you a 'silly old man' - you must try harder with your English Comprehension.
I asked you how you would prevent a pilot making that judgement when you outlined your preposterous 'plan'. You might have had an answer - but it seems you didn't.
And I am not 'quick with the insults if you do not agree with what (I) say' - I simply do not suffer foolish (or dishonest, inaccurate or inarticulate) posts gladly.
You of all people should know that by now.

Should some Lib/Dem members of a coalition party's cabinet *** off their Tory counterparts in public.
If they are prepared to serve under a coalition government, then to the general public they should be seen to act as one.
What goes off between them at cabinet meetings is another matter.
