If Gaddafi wanted to hide away and not be recognised, why didn't he shave off his very distinctive facial hair...even the hair on his head? I doubt many people would have spotted him like that.

He would have wanted to die with as much dignity and charisma as possible - a desire clearly denied by his captors, who saw him as a mad dog, and shot him like one.
/// A sombre-looking Mr Cameron delivered his brief statement in Downing Street. “I think today is a day to remember all of Colonel Gaddafi’s victims, from those who died in connection with the Pan Am flight over Lockerbie, to Yvonne Fletcher in a London street, and obviously all the victims of IRA terrorism who died through their use of Libyan Semtex,” he said. ///
Perhaps Gaddafi should be blamed for the IRA's use of Libyan Semtex, but excuse me weren't most of the mass murderers who used the stuff to kill innocent people, later freed from prison by a Labour government?

The criticism of Gaddafi for supplying weapons to people like the IRA is understandable but is also incredibly hypocritical.
What about all the innocent people killed by Saddam using American supplied weapons?
What about all the innocent people killed in Indonesia and The Gulf using British supplied weapons? Most notably perhaps The Hawk aircraft, supposedly sold as a trainer but in fact equipped and used for ground attack often against civilians.
And is anyone convinced that using our planes to tip the balance in rebel Libyan assaults on Gadaffi strongholds was somehow 'protecting civilians'. At the very least it's a bit of a stretch. If in fact we were killing people as part of a regime change it's a disgrace we don't stand up and say so.
All in all, The Prime Minister should be careful who he throws stones at - he lives in a 'glass house' with some big windows.

There is a very strong opinion that Pam Am was not a Libyan massacre - there is very strong evidence now that it was Iranian or Iranian sponsored through Syria - the bomb was a Syrian assembled device, as there are different "fingerprints" as to the way these things are assembled.
6 months beforehand, the US Navy had brought down an Iran Air plane w. c 140 pax.....the Libyan bombing by Reagan had been 2 years early. Qadaffi was more than ready to take the "credit" being the whacko pariah that he was..... The Iranians are/were happy with this as they got their revenge but without having to endure the full wrath of the States.
Britain could do everybody a favour in getting out the truth of what happened - i.e. release Blairs papers and MI5/6 records, even if it risks an embarrassing volte-face for the US security services.
