According to the front page of the Express Angie reckons war is a possibility. Is this the twist and shouts declaring early or more hysteria?

zeuhl, that goes for most on AB, not old enough to be in the last war, or even growing up in it.
Rojash, if you don't understand, perhaps it's because many of our rights as a sovereign nation have been signed away to the suits in Brussels. The only thing Brown got right was not signing up to the Euro.
em sure.

all i'm saying is that whatever else the eu is; good and bad - union almost certainly makes it more difficult for member states to go to war with each other.

If the response is ' yeah but that never happens anyway' then fine, but as you pointed out the experiences 1870 - 1945 are not comforting.
War at some point is inevitable, when not if.
As far as Europe goes before war its more than likely to be terrorist seperatist groups trying to get thier countries back from the dictatorial grip of the EU.

As for Merkels statement thats just plain scaremongering tactics

I'd love us to have another crack at the Hun. If we were to invade now, we'd be sucking sausages in Berlin by Christmas.
Payback for all those awful James Last records.
We've got nukes.....That'll make them think twice :-)
which words in Merkel's statement were 'hysterical', NJ?
i saw this and thought of a quote from the treaty of versailles (i think) this is not peace-its a ceasefire for 20 years, how right they were..........
Maybe she's just backing up the comments she made last year.....

Dust off the Panzers!
The good news is their old Messerschmitt factories are now making cars.

The bad news is our old spitfire factories are now indoor go-karting tracks.
Obviously, you have difficulty comprehending very simple statements NJ.
I can't make it simpler, so I'll just have to repeat it:

"I wasn't claiming that there was no such thing, merely asking for some examples."
