Having just watched breaking news of this terrible accident with 26 cars and lorries etc, can't imagine what the emergency people are facing and indeed the poor souls injured and worse (they have said some fatalities) must be going through. Must be terrible, I wonder if anyone here knows more about it?

wotcha sqad....you all well there ?
Hi! murray....no it's bloody raining.
TERRIBLE....just shows that it can happen to anybody no matter how responsible driver you are, |It only takes one idiot speeding in thick fog to destroy so many lives.(and there sure are some idiots out there)
hee hee ..that's what you get for fleeing these shores you know...
no steve!

driving into fog suddenly - if there are no warning signs to reduce speed - is not self inflicted! drivers in the fog slow down at different rates and when crashes occur, cars behind plough into them and the mayhem grows!

the worst i have ever experienced was a sandstorm, and i was terrified drivers would hit me, so i had to keep going!

sending best wishes to all involved!
I'm not sure what sort of distance you'd need to avoid the fallout from an articulated lorry bursting into flames on a busy motorway.

Steve, that comment was dispicable. Shame on you.
I agree with NOX, not all of those victims are at fault, whatabout the passengers, kids etc. Bloody stupid insensitive comment!!

Sorry Maidup, I hadn't read your comment.

The emergency services are to be admired. No way would I would have wanted to go into what awaited them.
Terrible crash, just down the road from me, 27 vehicles and 41 injured, horrific.
I agree with you Lottie.

Knowing that piece of the M5 well, it is prone to fog spots, however there would have been some coming down from Bridgwater from the Parrott on and, from Devon, up the Okehampton Valley. That should have got folk to have slowed down but many so carry on blithely at 80+ - and unfortunately in this case would have taken others out.......

However, I would wait for what the Police say was the cause before condemning - as it was pointed out earlier if trucks were on fire after a collision, well you would have had to be a lot further back to avoid trouble....
Wonder why a lot of comments have been removed - surely nobody could be that insensitive as to make bad comments when people have lost their lives. If so we don't want you on our AB site thank you - what ARE you thinking - it could be your family one day!!
Ann - suffice to say the comments have gone, job done.
Why would they ever think or say things in this kind of situation mamya - sad isn't it .............
It's beyond me.
They say some drivers at the front of the accident slowed down to get a better view of a firework display in an adjoining field and the others slammed into them.
Now that wouldn't surprise me, I've seen the same thing happening myself one night on the way to Coventry, the traffic was almost at a standstill on the motorway watching the display, no crash though.
I don't think they have found a reason yet, although that sounds very likely. They are also saying the fog some people said was around could have been smoke either from the burning vehicles or from the bonfire/fireworks.
Oh good. I see the insensitive and heartless posts have been removed from last night. Shame on you!

Just been watching it on the news, and it's so sad. Just down the road from me, too.
