Train, tube stations everywhere is lacking.
In this time of more people, longer queues and especially more alcohol, shouldn't we have many more toilets on every corner?
I'd be more than happy to pay a pound or two extra taxes to help with maintainence and if this was asked from everyone in this country this would be very viable.
Do you agree we need more toilets here?

We lived in Canada for three years and, although there are some public toilets, most, if not all, shops have a toilet which the public can use. There was talk of paying shops to do the same here, but I don't think anything came of it.

No the alcohol element was only added as i was going to factor in some kind of outside urinal like the dutch which would help with our uribe filled streets every fri and sat night but chose to go a different route with this question ie the afore mentioned elderly, sick, disabled, pregnant and women with children as well as the kids.

That would be great idea Kathyan.
Apparently we have 85 public loos in the town.

Yay us !!

That really depends on the size of your town, the typical age, how many disabled and disabled toilets they have.

Is there a site to find how many toilets there are in your town or city joggerjayne?
I'm not sure, M.

Our local authority has a map of them.

They also run a "Use Our Loo community toilet scheme" where establishments with loos are encouraged to make them available for the public.
When I run along the prom, I must pass at least ten public loos.
It gives a new meaning to being on the bottle. Frustrated drivers are resoreting to carrying around with them a bottle for emergencies. You can see many signs of this when they open their vehicle window and pour the liquid contents onto the road.

Morgan you don't even know where I live! It could be the public toilet capital or Britain!
I've never seen a queue outside of a public toilet, nor have I seen anyone with a widdle-stained crotch, which suggests there's enough. In town centres there's plenty of cafes, bars etc or specific publi toilets. In the villages, where I know there were public toilets, there's cafes etc that people can use. I can't think of anywhere around here where you'd struggle to find access to a public toilet unless you're in the middle of a residential estate.
In Scotland now they are doing a deal with local businesses e.g. pubs/cafes and shops where they get some deal on their rates or something if they make their toilets available for public use and they need to put a sticker in their window. Seems ideal solution to me. Plenty of accesss to toilets and no need to run freezing cold public facilities.
only go to manchester if you have a good bladder and prostate

Think so JJ - I think they call it the comfort scheme or something. I rarely ever feel the need - like Paul I go before I leave the house :o) But having kids it can be a bit of a trial when they need to go as most of the time, they can't wait long!!
Our council (Scotland) closed it's public loos. Some shops have signs which say 'Customer Use only' (for the loos) , others are very accomodating :)
if you google this question there are a few sites talking about it

one cafe charging a pound for non customers to use their toilet

We have two public toilets in the whole of Dover, it's an absolute disgrace - the rest of them closed due the cost of upkeep.
There's one set of public (council maintained) public toilets in our town that are free; there is another set which need to be paid for and another which is owned by the shopping centre in which they are housed. There are 3 toilets in the free public ones which seems ridiculous for a town of our size; there used to be others but they've been shut due to misuse for years.
I do, and London is the worst of all, and the few there are, are usually filthy, lacking soap, loo paper, no locks on doors, and basically unusable.
Hosting the Olympics next year, billions paid, but the powers that run the capital, can't do the simplest thing, have decent public conveniences.
