World war three.
Who agree's that WW3 is just around the corner? And who will start it?
I think Germany.... Third time lucky. They are already the most powerfull (and bossy) country in Europe. Poor old Winston must be turning in his grave!

Germany has started the conquest of Europe with an army of faceless bureaucrats - much cheaper than tanks... but that won't make a World war.
There are nuclear weapons in Pakistan, ex-Soviet states and soon to be Iran, perhaps. These states have religious extremists who could get their hands on them, and might start something, but hardly a World war.
No, I think that global warming and / or the next Ice Age will do for us.
Glorious criticism invited.

WW3 seems highly unlikely to me - most countries national interests are far too intertwined with trade for their to be a war any time soon. I certainly do not see Germany acting as an aggressor, and to try and paint Angela Merkels comments ( fearmongering as they were) as a thinly veiled declaration of war is just absurd.
I could see wars breaking out in the medium to long term (50 years or so) over resources - agricultural land, minerals and oil, and drinking water

Well said, carakeel.
Your assessment is balanced, based on personal experience and that makes
it clear and understandable. For my part, I get tired of this phobia about the Germans.
Just a thought, but in how many conflicts since 1945 have the Germans been involved in - and in how many were the British?

Albert Einstein said 'I don't know how World War Three will be fought but World War Four will be fought with sticks and stones' and I think he was right. Won't be many left or much left to fight about if there is a nuclear war. What I can't understand is why the ones who instigate the wars don't realise they are destroying the very things they desire so much
Kayless, if you look at the link I posted a few pages back - the Klingon flag was deliberately designed to look like the Nazi one. It isn't a coincidence.
Here's the sentence from Wikipedia
"The Klingons were redesigned to evoke the Nazis, with the red, white and black Klingon flag deliberately similar to that of the National Socialist German Workers Party"

The term World War is in itself suspect. It implies two main sides knocking hell out of each other. Thats not going to happen it would be mutual suicide.
The cold war came to an end when both sides realised they could not win.
You will always get minor wars and one day a lunatic will launch a H Bomb but even that wont lead to a world war. Fidel Castro was the last leader to plead with the Russians to Nuke the US but both Kruschev and Kennedy knew it would have been suicide, but had it happened it would have been the shortest war in history, and there would not have been any spoils of war because there would have been nothing left on either side. In addition a war of that magnitude would contaminate the whole world.
You can not compare a WW3 with WW2 anymore than WW2 could be fought like WWI. Initially WW2 was thought to be like WW1 with the Maginot and Siegfried fixed lines. In the event nether were even used.

not at all, Kayless - as shown by the fact that others have pointed it out on this thread; you're the one who missed it. The idea was to "evoke" the Nazis, not copy them, and that's what your avatar does. No point in trying to change it at the moment, you'll be stuck in Gravatar hell for weeks, but in the longer run it may not be the avatar you want.
