There couldn't be a more befitting saying.

/// Parts of the dossier come from registrar of St Paul’s, Nicholas Cottam, who wrote to a corporation official outlining the disruptions faced by the cathedral.///
The St Paul's officials should have thought of the consequences when they welcomed these lay-abouts with open arms.
And the council what can be said about them?
Providing toilets, rubbish bins and street cleaning operatives, all at the council tax payers, while at the same time spending a 'fortune' in legal costs.
You just couldn't make it up, it could only happen in this country, anywhere else the police would have moved in, and had them removed long ago.

giveup, that is what a lot of people haven't done, gone there to see for themselves, and perhaps talked with the people,
Answerprancer said he did, and he appeared to agree with the protest, but it doesn't seem to have any real focus. They are also camped out in Finsbury square, and a damn mess that is as well.

<<questioned if they would fight come a world war, the majority said no.>>
Many people of all ages said the same in the 1930s and hardly surprising as it was less than 20 years since the last blood-bath.
However, come the day the vast majority stepped up to do their bit.
Heaven forbid that today's young people should face that situation but if they did, depending on the context, i think we would find that people's underlying drivers remain the same.

Zuehl, maybe, but quite frankly we are a completely different nation now, and have moved on a lot since then. And if it came to a another world war, who would many fight for. I am well aware millions volunteered from our then commonwealth countries, but can't see that happening now, can you?
If you were originally from somalia, china, and any of the 300 nationalities that currently reside here, how would it work. One would hope that it would never come to that of course.

Gandhi set the basic example for passive resistance.
He behaved in a dignified manner, giving no offence to people not directly involved.
There are probably people at the protest camp who adhere to this.
They will be massively outnumbered by the professional protesters and other hangers on, whose behaviour and standards give offence to ordinary people.
This damages the value of peaceful protest

It does depend on context.
Of course, modern warfare may just involve relatively small numbers of professional troops, advanced ordnance and everybody else's role limited to withstanding whatever is lobbed over.
It's true we have moved on. For example I think it would be impossible today to exploit and wastefully sacrifice people in the way they did in the carnage of WW1. Most people would tell Lord Kitchener what he could do with it and quite right too.
Whilst it is hard to imagine the context for a viable WW3 in the way that WW2 occurred, ultimately people fight to defend their homes, their loved ones and their way of life. That was the perception in 1914, probably the reality in 1939 and if a situation of that type of threat emerged again then inevitably people will step up.

Come on Steve, do you really believe that there are no left wingers who are
racist, bigoted, arrogant or ignorant? Not one? Listen to live debates on BBC Parliament!
Jingoism is a left wing taunt, similar to Loony Left.
I had a good, late lamented friend who was an old fashioned card carrying Communist. One of the best. But when he talked politics, he would tell me , quite seriously, that come the Revolution, I would be shot.

You have a lot to say in defence of these protesters, but let's turn your argument round shall we?
In this analogy we are referring to the EDL.when they have also been accused of wrongdoings, and using your words:
/// You have evidence that all the people demonstrating are doing those things? ///
/// Where is it? ///
/// In fact where is the evidence that those actions were perpetrated by any of the protesters? ///
/// Or is a bit of circumstantial evidence and a few unsustantiated photos taken by The Guardian enough for you as it fits your existing prejudices? ///
I have changed your reference to the Mail, and replaced it with a 'Left-Wing' rag, but it could have quite easily been any of the prejudicial media.
It would seem that without any direct proof, one size fits all.
