Jeremy Clarkeson's 'joke' the strikers should be executed, shot in front of their families seems to have upset a few people. He clearly didn't mean it, and he himself once went out on strike when he was a mere magazine journalist.

I am more offended by the joke not being at all funny. It was feeble.

He is a good motoring presenter, why do we need to know his opinion on strikers?

Poor analogy that vulcan. After all, did anyone in the Norwegian media advocate the shooting of young political activists prior to the tragedy?

I doubt it.
I laughed and took in the humour at the BBC that it was aimed at.

Those with pitch forks and torches should lighten up IMO.
21,000 complaints, I didn't realise it has that many viewers. I only watched it because JC was on it.
I doubt the Norwegian media had anything to do with the shooting, my point was something, excuse the pun, triggered the shooting. The remark by Jeremy could also trigger something similar.
Clarkson has a funny sense of humour but oversteps the mark sometimes, but those calling for his head are mis guided
If there's one thing that irritates me Philtaz, it is ridiculous analogies.

On a thread in 2008 concerning the Ross/Brand affair, there was one poster (I won't mention who it was, because he/she is still on AB - sod it, its Friday and I've been to the pub - it was brionon), who compared people who laughed at the Ross/Brand incident with Nazi guards laughing at Jews were led away to the gas chambers.

Mental!
The point as Ed so well put it, is context, if you read the Ed's reply you cannot take offence, you can also see he A) It wasn't a personal opinion B) Wasn't a joke C) Was a criticism of those who see the BBC as biased.

Those who perpetuate the "evil" joke thing are doing themselves a disservice.
....and making themselves look stupid.

Could I just say here that I think Clarkson is a manufactured buffon and a caricature. I think he would be fantastic company for a night on the beer and is a jolly good chap.

Is he PC? No hes not, but he says no more than a lot of people say in private.
I found the comment on allowing the trains to carry on running if someone had committed siucide by jumping in front of one far more obnoxious.
If you want to upset him refuse to buy his DVDs and don't watch his programmes
vulcan42,

So you're saying that ANY form or sarcasm or glib remark in the media could possibly trigger a massacre? I didn't see poultry farmers lynched when Edwina Currie nade her infamous 'eggs are killers' remark.

What triggered the shooting was that a man declared insane and who had access to firearms has been diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia.
There was a GMB tit on TV this morning who said that union members in Guatamala were shot because they were union members.

He had no idea that he sounded like a complete pillock.
Now who's making a poor analogy," eggs are killers", equates with," these people should be shot" ?
I assume from your statement you know there are no insane people with access to weapons living in the UK.
It's all pathetic.
21,000 people and some on here need to get a life.
Jehovah Jehovah Jehovah! ;-)
No vulcan, there are quite a few insane people in this country (BBC complaints figures seem to bear that out) but to suggest that Clarkson's comments may possibly trigger a resultant massacre involving healthcare/public service workers is scaremongering in the extreme, not to mention decidedly silly.
I was amused to read that the Union/Regime in question (I will not honour them with stating their name) wanted him reported to the police for "inciting violence".
What are they doing then?
Richard LittleJohn (another known for inciting 'annoyance' in The Mail) had it right maybe ..
He did say he 'did not agree with Clarkson' .. He said they should be 'hung, drawn and quartered'
anyone who thought he was being serious needs to get out more.
