Here we go again, the Tories putting money into the hands of business. You can have the prettiest shop front but unless people are willing to buy its a dead duck.

To get people to buy you have to put the money into the consumers pocket. Either tax breaks or inducements like the car scrappage scheme would help.
we'll have some, please, anything to reenergise our main shopping area... Peacocks is another nail in the coffin, as Bon Marché is going as well.
Dr. Evil at work again.
Doesn't anyone think that the internet has a lot to do with the way our shopping habits are changing .It is much easier to order and pay online and then sit back and wait for the goods to be delivered. The only way to help our High Street shops is to get out and shop in them.
Went to Mary Portas's 'shop' (inside house of Fraser in Oxford Street) and was not impressed.

The male staff were dressed up like bellboys (which my wife found embarrassing) and the clothing was very overpriced. She did try on a pair of trousers (on sale for £80) and the quality was crap.

God knows how she became a 'retail guru' as she has no clue!
