Today February 6 marks the very beginning of Queen Elizebeth's reign, and also the sad loss of her Father King George V1.

Regardless of your thoughts about the Monarchy, has not our country benefited from her long and peaceful reign?

Long to reign over us right enough!
Love her. Will watch the celebrations with pride.
I quite like the royal family.
Maybe if she had a bit more power she would have told the war mongering politicians to back off. The only reign she has are the ones that guide the horse. (sorry rein)
And she may well have been blown up by now by the terrorists visiting London and the UK in rov's idealistic utopia.
Didn't Anna Neagle star in a film about Vicotria, '60 Glorious Years'? Who can see another made based on ER's time on the throne?
If they make a film about ERII, I vote that they ask Meryl Streep to play her.

I quite like Her Majesty. Apparently when she met Madonna at the premiere of 'Die Another Day' (Madonna performed the theme tune), Her Majesty (the Queen, not Madonna) had to ask her advisors who Madonna was.

How cool this that? You're so famous that you don't know who Madonna is.
Question Author
Who is she?
Some silly singer from the 80s who won't go away.
I know she has the money to do it - but doesn't she always look lovely, most of her outfits are so well matched together.
She has been a wonderful monarch, still carrying out a schedule most people her age could not do, long may she reign.
I think she has done brilliantly. Made a few mistakes, but not afraid to admit to them and put it right. She was 25 when she came to the throne and now at 85 nearly 86 she is still working as hard as ever.
The greatest monarch, on the proudest throne, is still obliged to sit upon his/her own a*se.
As a side note - Andrew Marr's 'The Diamond Queen' is a very good read. It's not the view of a monarchist or a republican, rather - the view of a historian, documenting her reign. It's fascinating stuff (even if you think you know there's all to know about her).
He was on the BBC the other day. He said he used to be a republican.
Some possible related quiz questions.

If QE2 survives past 18 September 2013, which would seem fairly likely, and Charles succeeds her, he will become the oldest English / British monarch at the start of his reign, surpassing William IV.

And if QE2 survives past 8 August 2015, which would also seem likely, she will become the longest-reigning monarch in English / British history, surpassing Victoria, who reigned for 63 years and 216 days, or 63 years, 7 months and 2 days depending on how you consider it.

Well, her mother lived until 101, and I *think* the Queen is 85 or 86 (I think), so...so...it proves that the secret of longevity is a little nip of gin every now and then.

Pity I'm a vodka man myself.
i like liz as a person. we get on well, and she pokes me now and again on facebook. but you have to acknowledge that she has led a super priveleged life that has allowed her to keep going, along with a dedicated team who iron her socks and make sure she puts her knickers on the right way round every day.

her male equivalent would be hugh heffner......
