Does he imagine being a famous actor endows him with some inherent knowledge of foriegn affairs? Most Americans couldn't even find the islands on the map, what makes this particular one special?

Gromit, your post from 14:44 was unfair, uncharitable but none-the-less probably true.
I agree with Sqad!

Not at all, I'm not badly off myself. Where have I ever had a go at well off people just for being well off. Show me those links Mr Sqad please.
Which name should he look under...............? :o)
As he was in his capacity of UN ambassador for Haiti, he should have shown more professionalism and stuck to talking about Haitian issues. To be fair to him though, it looks like someone sprung a question on him and he was caught unawares. The term "colonialism" is outdated and inflammatory though. Maybe someone should offer the American Virgin Islands to a S American country and see what he`s got to say about that.
Just an impression based on your castigations of the rich Americans.........I may well have misjudged you...............

Personally I think Alaska should belong to Canada................

I have a go at the US health system, not the US generally.
From Wikipedia...

"In addition to his film work, Penn is known for his political and social activism, most notably his criticism of the George W. Bush administration, his contact with the Presidents of Venezuela and Cuba, and his humanitarian work in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina and the 2010 Haiti earthquake"

You may disagree with his views, but I think given his non-movie-related activities, he probably knows a bit about the background to the situation - possibly even more than the OP?
I think Scotland should belong to Iceland.
Would someone please answer Craft's question? When did Argentina ever 'own' the Falklands?

As far as I know, NEVER.
Scotland would never let Kerry Katona in.............
He is American, and if you notice the 'proper' American politicians have been rather quite over this affair.

But that is not new they didn't support us when the Argies last tried to invade the Islands.

They have far too many interests in some of those South American countries and they don't want to upset them.

Perhaps we would be wise to ignore their beckoning when they want some support from us, in dealing with their foreign ventures.
1828-1832 I think albaqwerty
<<In November 1832, Argentina sent Commander Mestivier as an interim commander to found a penal settlement, but he was killed in a mutiny after 4 days. The following January, British forces returned and requested the Argentine garrison leave. Don Pinedo, captain of the ARA Sarandi and senior officer present, protested but ultimately complied.>> wiki
@AOG "But that is not new they (USA) didn't support us when the Argies last tried to invade the Islands." Not only is that untrue, without Reagan and the USA help we could not have succeeded in defending the islands last time. The distance is beyond the flight capabilities of our aircraft, and they were re-fuelled in flight by the USAF.
Many thanks for that. I like this site, you live and learn:)
Redhelen says "he may be like George Clooney who knows quite a bit about politics."

That may very well be true, but from his comments on this issue it is quite clear he knows very little about Argentina's claim to the Falklands.
