Are we not learning anything from the actions of some of our young, what is the answer to prevent these increasing vile actions, what is the reason for it, do youngsters know far too much about sex these days?
Don't anyone dare say "it is no different now to what it was in the past" or that old chestnuts, "these sort of things are more reported than they were in the past".
What we need are answers, not excuses.

Knowing how to do something and opting to do it even when it is wrong to do so are different things. I don't think it reasonable to blame knowledge to such actions. The crux of the problem is one of inability to know right from wrong and act accordingly. Are we saying that 13 to 15 year olds can not understand the severity of what they do ? I'm sure understanding and responsibility increases with age but one would hope such a server transgression would be known to be wrong by all.
Ultimately it is a case of bringing folk up correctly, and noting those who have mental issues with understanding respect for others and the need to curb ones wilder desires. To be aware when a child is proving unable to empathise and act accordingly and find ways to cope/treat the problem.
Oh and it's still the case that atrocities have always occurred so it's not a simple case of 2012 being the oddball time in history.

Kids in school should have it made clear to them, via police visits and a public awareness campaign that if they are convicted of such crimes they will a) be jailed b) be classed as paedophiles c) have to spend a number of year on the sex offedders register d) be subject to all the social stigma that comes with a, b and c...especially b).

Yes, and whilst I am loathe to tar all kids with the same brush, there *does* appear to be too many who know too much about sex...and very little about love.
Adults should bear some responsibility for promoting this atmosphere of sexual abandon. Relationships that last months, marriages that last days, and all for the front pages of Heat and Closer.

This crime has little to do with sex, and a lot to do with power, as advised by 2shortplanks. Rape is never about sex, it's about robbery with violence.
This is the pinacle of a malaise in our society where children are not taught to respect themselves, or each other, and in that issue does lie the problem of indiscriminate sexual activity because children learn little of love and affection, and how these are expressed in context.
The issue of parental responsibility is fundamental to these problems. We have one, and another coming up generation of people who have no parenting skills. the extended family which used to reinforce appropriate behaviour and respect is virtually defunct, and society is adrift with no real sense of direction.
I wish I did know what the solution was - but what I do know is that it is a multi-facted issue, with no one simple solution to be put in place.

Some very good answers, with some good reasons why our children are what they are, but has this been a gradual decline in morals, or just the make-up of today's young?
Going back to uncivilised times, when humankind was much more vicious than it is today, their children never acted in such a way, could the decline in religion be one reason, for this transformation.

Indeed new Judge - the word, and the concept have been hi-jacked by the hyper-sensitive egocentric yobs of today as an excuse for their vile antics.
If we could educate a generation that respect has to be earned and given before it is received, and that it is the right of everyone, not just a (self) chosen few, we woule be on our way to healing the wounds that blight all of us.
