Are these the torturous savages that we helped to overthrow Gaddafi's regime?

Are they any different from those that they overthrew?

No - a certain section of their militia are partaking in acts of barbarism - which does not in inteself indicate a barbarous nature for the entire nation.

Any more than the Me Lai massacre in Viet Nam condems the entire United States military - much less its population - to acusations of savagery.

Militaary personnel have behaved apallingly since time begain - it's the spill-over that occurs when you inculcate hatred of another race into people with potential military superiority.

So - are the military any different from those they overthrew? No - savagery exists in armies, always has, always will.

The populations caught up in these situations are not included - unless in sweeping generalisations.
It looks like propaganda to me - and although I am not in any way condoning it, they look to be meting this out to those who supported Gaddafi. Their strange way of showing them who's in charge now.

I agree with andy-hughes.
I do not normally do 'I told you so' posts, but I posted this 6 months ago.

// As for creating Democracy there, that is far too premature to say. We do not really know our new friends yet, and there behaviour and actions over the next few months need to closely watched before we can say they are acting democratically. My guess is they won't be. //

I'm feeling mellow today so I am going to agree with whatever AOG says, right up until midnight
As i've said before, AOG is a grumpy git, but he is OUR grumpy git
They won't be allowed to do things like that when they get admitted to the EU club. Far fetched! Well if the EU can gobble up ex soviet states where could it all end.

Calling someone 'a grumpy git' cannot possibly be considered as 'friendly', by any stretch of the imagination, even if you wish to make the offended your personal property.
lol...
AOG - I have posted a message to you on the 'David Starkey' thread - please read it. Thanks.
Whenever you remove a regime, especially a ruthless dictator, you get a power vacuum and a period of disorganisation and lawlessness- quite why anyone is surprised by what's happening escapes me.

Barkis is willing?
My apologies.
I forgot you'd had a sense of humour bypass
definitely, Mrs O......I don't mind being called a grumpy old it but I am a sheep...
D, you're not grumpy, just baaaaaaarking mad lol
you should see his other Lybia thread on desecration of graves - God help us if the Argies step out of line.....
lol!

(oops, forgot, laughing not allowed on AOG's threads)
