They walk around looking miserable wearing horrible clothes listening to horrid noise they call music taking drugs getting drunk being sick all over the place turning our town centers into no go areas isn't it time we had conscription back to sort this miserable lot out?

I don't like these miserable, moping, antisocial teenagers any more than anyone else (didn't when I was a teenager either, so it can't be that new a phenomenon), but I have to agree that it is not ALL teenagers, far from it. While they do seem to be on the increase, there are still plenty of good kids out there, and it's very wrong to generalise.

Although bits of bernardo's humorous post did make me smile - I just couldn't bear the thought of my 15 year old Granddaughter & 13 year old Grandson, going through what he expresses should be done to ALL teenagers.....!

Of course people don't generalise.  I am a crumblie and I hate other horrible crumblies,  some are so smug, rude  and rigid in their views.  Some teens amaze me with how knowledgeable and advanced they are.  Trouble is horrible teenagers, usually the ones not told how horrible they are, eventually grow into horrible crumblies.

To be precise, I have voted for eight different political parties over the years, including trhe UKIP in the European Elections in 1999 and 2004.  However, i did so only reluctantly because there was no better alternative available.  In the General Election the UKIP candidate got 5.523 times as many votes as I did.  I agree with the UKIP about getting out of the EU, but disagree with it about lots of other things.

(Before I start, I would like to ask HC: why do teenagers' appearance and "music" tastes cause such annoyance? I'm sure that it does not affect your life in any great way.)

I am a teenager. I think that the description HAPPYCHAPPIE gave is identical to what I would use to describe some teenages today. I am disappointed because I get labelled with what is the perception of teenagers today. But do us teenagers have a different genetic make-up that causes us to terrorise others. I would assume not (although I agree that genes play a role in defining everyone). The environment we grow up in is very important indeed.

I do not do any of the things that HC complains about. I also do not drink, smoke, swear or (as Mr Blair would say) disrespect others. I believe that it is due mainly to how I was brought up. My parents gave me good values, but at the same time allowed me to make my own choices. For example, my sister definitely enjoys going out drinking and my parents trust her not to come to any harm. However, she is not a public menace.

I have worried many times for the future of this country, but I don't think that there are fewer "good" teenagers than in the past. I would, along with everyone else, like to be able to walk through town centres without fear. Prevention is better than cure - us teenagers know only what we have been shown by those before us. But it would also be nice if there was no problem with teenagers. It is a shame that there exists a minority of teenagers that create one.
