Scottish Border control ?

There is discussion that if Scotland votes for independence they may have to start border controls . What are your views ? Seems daft to me, you can travel all over the EU without checks why should Scotland be diffrent?

..and PS Eddie, that's not strictly true - when we go down the road and get on a ferry to France, we still have to show our passports, same as we do at the airport for travel within Europe.
Scotland would not be any different. Although you have free movement within the EU you are still required to show your passport to prove that you are a citizen of an EU country.
When I fly from Scotland to London I'm always told to carry my passport as proof of identity.
Is that to keep them in?
.. and the other way round, maggie, we needed one to fly into Scotland.
Once they gain independence and are bankrupt they will all be trying to jump the border.

You can trave between Northern Ireland and Eire without any ID at all , surely Scotland would be the same?
In any case on a practical level it would be impossible , there is 100s of miles of open country between England and Scotland , unless of course they take up boxtops suggestion and rebuild Hadrians wall .
Have you forgotten about the Oil Tonyav, I'm sure England needs Scotland more than people think.
They need the employment possibilites up in Scotland - and it would come under Public Services, Salmond's objective to have a 100% Public Service economy.
Apparently the way the maritime borders are drawn, most of the oil is in English waters.
As others have already mentioned, it will be to stop the Scots leaving..

My father, a Shetlander, always denied being Scottish.
I heard that there are hundreds of people at the border - sawing away with saws (and explosives) to fully separate Scotland from England.
At what point do we exchange our cash for pigs and sheep? Do I have to wear a smock and chew straw?
